New ED Amp, Edi Components, and a couple problems
I recieved my Edi 6000's and Nine.2 Amplifier today. While doing the install i came across some problems.
1) Speakers are a little to big (depth) and the windows will not go all the way down.
Tomorrw i have to make custom wood fillers to make the speaker sit alittle more out.
2) I couldn't find a place to run my power wire from the cargo to the battery. I read somewhere that there are grommets behind the steering well or something?
So far all i did was run the signal wires and the speaker cables. And i connectd everything to the head unit. Tommorow i will run the power wire (if i figure out how to get to the battery) and install my new speakers with the custom wood fillers.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
Greg.

Hey Greg,
Check out my walk through
3/4" MDF baffles will work fine.
To run the power wire, look up behind the steering wheel, there's a huge cluster of wires coming in, carefully cut a hole in there and run your power wire through, then down the driver's side.

I seem to recall reading on here someplace that there was grommet on the passenger side as well, and that 4 gauge power cables could be pushed through that, without cutting.
I *know* the pass side grommet part was correct, just not sure about the cutting.
anyhow, good luck!

just make sure the wire is running INSIDE the grommet and not between the edge of the grommet and the firewall......
on the pass. side, you have to remove the glove box I believe..... The drivers side doesn't require removal of any components and you'd already be on the battery side of the engine compartment......

From what i see... there isn't even room for speaker wire to pass through that grommet. When i look from inside the hood, the grommet is completely full of wires with no space around them. Am i looking at the wrong grommet? I'm looking behind the steering wheel.
I ran my power wire through the grommet used by the A/C spillover tube. It's located on the lower left hand side of the passenger space. You can see it by pulling the carpet back. There's a small, black tube leading out, which probably just drains water from the A/C unit. I split the grommet to open it and ran my power wire through there, up the firewall and over to the battery terminal.
I have drilled a few holes for customers with Xb's through the fire wall with a right angle Makita drill and a step bit, but to do it cleanly will take some time and a lot of people would rather not permanelty put unneccesary holes in there new vehicle but with 2 or 0 ga you might not have a choice. There is some thick sound damping material on both sides of the firewall.
greg, there should be some room between the wires and the edge of the grommet.....you won't be able to push the wire through WITH the other wires....but make another hole in the grommet beside the factory wires....
You can easily use the passenger side grommet, that's what I did, there are 2 nipples on each side of the main hole, cut then tip of one nipple off, lube your wire really well with wd-40 or soapy water, and then stick 'er through!
It's like a hotdog in a hallway!

I don't want to use the passenger side for 2 reasons.
1) its the opposite side of the battery
2) i already ran my signal wire from the passenger sid.
As far as making a hole in the grommet:
I see where i can make a hole and the wire would fit in. I just don't see how its gonna come out from the other side. Am i gonna have to drill through the firewall?
