hey everyone, i was just wondering if i could get some advice from people who have experience with fiberglas :D


what im lookin to do is get rid of my rear seats (not permantly) but i wanted to make a fiberglass floor that would go from the end of the drivers and passengers seat and continue back into the hatch to creat 1 smoothe peice.

what i was wondering is how much material am i going to need? and what is the expected difficulty? im gonna try it anyways but i wanna know what im gettin myself into

i know how to take the seats out (ive done it before for fun/boredom before) and i love the way the tC looks w/o the rear seats.

i dont need them anyways.. i just drive w/ my gf and thats about all. im never the taxi

and some more plans for my interior is to add a roll cage powedercoated Bronze like my wheels, and have the fiberglass floor painted flint mica (my exterior color) and add
DaveDavetC in bronze letters in the hatch :D

i think it would give my interior a nice smooth look. and it would be 100x easier to keep clean with the fiberglass floor then with carpet and seats. that way instead of vaccuming the floors i could wax them hehe.


any imput would be great.

I have no imput about the fiberglass part of it..but just make sure you uhm.....er......yeah dirty mind images you know what I'm getting at with the gf

well.... making it out of one solid peice is going to be tricky... thats a rather large piece and to make it stong enough your going to need a good amount of material... so... and by good amount i mean A LOT.... yeah.. but if you go thru with it... more power to you and make sure you post pics...

Do you want to cover the entire hatch area, or just go to the area to connect it to the existing hatch piece?

One problem I see is getting it in and out of the car. I've never taken out my rear seats, but with a painted piece, you have to worry more about scratching it.

i personally wouldnt do fiberglass. Long runs of flat fiberglass is very weak. MDF floor with some fleece stretched over top and then glassing that though... that might work.

but u kno what, Harrison the more i think about it. the more i like ur idea.... but how could i cut that to sit flush with the interior panels. cus i dont want any gaps or anything.

 

get it close as possible, and then put a layer or 5 of foam on the edges to make it completely flush. wrap the fleece around everything and glass and voila, flush against panels.

 

that could work... and it would be cleaner and less time consuming.... but would it look as good?

 

Easesiest way. Make wood pieces at the end or where you want the material to stop and go up or whatever...

Then stretch fleece attached to each point... and resin it.

Just make sure you have the underside masked and foiled or somthing to not let it stick.

basicly do a wood frame so to say to get the exact shape slash whatever you want.... Like if your going from the rear where the brace is... id bolt a piece of mdf to it since it has holes. Just counter sink the bolts so you can just take the nuts off when you wanna move it.

Whereever you have a edge and you want that shape do the same there... piece of wood to the shape.

Then you take the fleece attached it to the rear piece first... staple it down... pull forward attach it to the other pieces to get the perfect shape all the way to where you are stopping it. Stape it all up...

Then resin it.... let it harded. DO not get thick @$$ fleece.... go light on the resin coat. Just make it so you dont see any more white. Let it harded... do one more coat of resin. Let it dry then remove.]

Gut the car because it is messy. I am currently have a design doing away with the rear seats and it involes water.

annd that would be structurally strong too? or would it be weak because it just has a wood frame?
