Default New sub, need ideas

Can't decide what I want. Basicly I want between 1600-3200wrms(I know broad category probably either 1600wrms or 2000wrms) and since its a tC I'd like it if I could get it from one 15" or two 10"s because we don't have much trunk room(about 3 cubic feet and I want to keep my backseats up. Main choices:

1. Alpine type X(2 maybe?) with Hifonics bxi1608d @ 1 ohm(2 if I get two type x's)

2. 1 15" Kicker L7 with Hifonics bxi1608d@1 ohm

3. Other type of sub(DD, Fi, RE, Treo, whatever high wrms sub I can find then a matching amp)

Well....considering you don't know what wrms means. I would suggest you do some research for yourself before shelling out nearly a grand for subwoofers that you won't be able to hear the difference.
Here's why i made those claimes.
1. Only two of the Alpine Type-X subwoofers will get you in the 1600-2300rms range, as it is rated at 500w per voice coil (2vc x 2subs= 4x500 =2000wrms) Kicker L7: 100-1000wrms.
2. Both of those options would sound nearly the same, because getting that kind of power states that you are going for SPL and not sound quality. Remember you have a hatchback, and the bass travels really well. It's not like the subs are in an enclosed trunk. So, both of those setups will both sound the same......like there is way too much bass, and will completely overpower the rest of your system.

If I were you, I would consider the notion that bigger is not always better. One of the Type-X's in a ported box is plenty to satisfy your needs. That or an Elemental Designs 13Av.2.

You want to get loud? SPL? SQ? SQL? What are you looking for?

Want all out loud with some musical ability? Try a single DD9510 or 9512 with a Sundown3000D!!

Want loud SQL, find an older RE XXX sub run 2k watts to it and you will have all the musical bass you want! LOL, I have a XXX motor sitting in my bedroom right now, I need to recone it to a 12, when I do I will have it in a 2.4cuft box with 40sqin of port tuned to~30hz...

My current setup is 2 10L7s powered by a Sundown1500D, loud? yes, 141.9db at the dash dbdrag. Sound good with music? yes. Can it move some air? yes.

So, both of those setups will both sound the same.
I disagree with that statement, I'm not going to get into it, but its wrong.

But also mind you that with all that power to the subs you want a good front stage. I'm running an active setup for the front with a Zapco DC ref1000.4, that's putting 150watts per channel. Sometimes I feel that it isn't enough for what I am running, sometimes the bass still overpower the front stage.

I would shy away from the typex sub. If you want loud, the typer is better! Meh on the 13AV.2...

I second the fact that RE subs can be VERY loud if that's what you're going for.

Here's what I meant with that statement. You shove an 15" L7 or a 15" REXXX or mulpiple ID subs and over a 1500 wants to them, in a hatchback, to the average person they will all "sound" the same. To a trained ear who has heard all of these setups, that is not the case, but for someone who just wants to shove stuff into the trunk. They will all "sound" the same; massive amounts of bass that will overpower the rest of the system.

Now, I know there are many individuals who have these setups in a tc, and are saying woah now, thats not true. But those individuals have also done extensive front stage work, to compensate.

To no degree an L7 will sound the same as an xxx. You didn't even take into account different tuning, not considering the 15" L7 has more cone area than the 15" xxx, brand of the sub and what it is made for, etc....
So in a nutshell, I can stick a 15" sony xplode in the trunk of my car with a billion watt jenson amp and it will sound the same as any other setup??
Or lets take a spl sub like the RE MT and put it up against a SQ sub IDMax, same box tuned to 32hz and a 1500watt amp, which would you think sound better? Tune it to 40hz and which will sound better?
Sealed, ported, 4th order, 6th order, 8th order, 1/4 wave....different applications for different speakers.

buy 2x 12" Kicker L5 with a ported box made to the specs of the sub and 1 hifonics bxi1606 amp, that will be more than enough without spending alot out of your pockets. i don't like alpine subs because the sound quality is sloppy. 1 15" kicker L7 will require i big box and still take pretty much the whole space in the back.
RE subs are in another level but are you seriously going to be driving with alot of bass and say you got the loudest on the block, or is it for DBdrags and shows?

Kickers require huge boxes....
The 12s need for the small side 1.75cuft after port and sub and the big side is 3.25cuft after port and sub. For me the bigger the better....more efficient...

If you push that much in a tC you are gonna need to power up a good front stage with some comps that hold more than 200w each or it is gonna sound bad.

look on a couple of forums like DIYMA for what others are using to build a complete system.

Lol

Guys, I didn't say anything about the rest of my system(component speakers, amp for them, headuit, anything, so don't assume that they won't be able tocompete with the sub.

I didn't really say my goals I guess, so here is what I want. Right now I have a 10" L5 getting 600wrms @ 2 ohms in a 3.2 ft^3 box that takes up the whole trunk with a 3" L-port. I know enough about car audio, I was just wondering which subs can take more than their rated power easily.

No, its perfect. The port and tuning make it sound amazing. Louder than friend's bestbuy 1000rms.

according to specs for the 10L5 the biggest it should be is 2.25cuft after port and sub displacement. With a bigger box you risk unloading the sub even with minimal power.
