Default noob- changing the rear speakers to a 6 1/2

also i have not tried to take the rear speakers out yet, but 2 questions.

How hard is it to take the panel off to change the speaker and also how do you make the 6 1/2 speaker fit back there,

If there are other articles please let me know.

Taking the car apart is described in this thread:

The rear speakers are already 6.5".

WTF? Every thread I've ever seen here has everyone stating 5.25" as the rear size. You can see one example of such a thread here (link), and there are many more.

Woops...but who uses their rear speakers anyways! If you really wanted, I'm sure 6.5" would fit back there. I'd measure them, but they were so terrible, I'm sure they're trashed by now.

^ Agreed, no point in ruining the front soundstage. Besides, 99% of the people who implement rear-fill don't do it appropriately (not only attenuated, but also a delayed signal).

Why do a lot people say there's 6.5s in the rear speakers? No, they're 5.25. How do I know? I just swapped mine out yesterday. I'm 95% sure you can fit 6.5s back there though. In fact, I used the same speaker brackets for both the 6.5s and 5.25s. I like my rear speakers for imaging purposes.

It's really not that hard to take off the panel. (Especially if you have a panel remover tool. You can find them at Pep Boys for $8.)

1. Pop out the rear seat.
2. Remove black push pin that was under the seat.
3. Recline the upper rear seat(s).
4. Pull back some of the black door gasket. (Just enough to release the door panel.)
5. Remove the cargo net hanger.

The panel should now just be held in place by the white push pins. Simply pull (WATCH OUT FOR THE SEAT BELTS!!) and the panel should come off. I cannot tell you how much easier it is with the panel remover tool!!

Music is supposed to sound as if it's coming from IN FRONT of you. Rear speakers serve NO purpose for 2 channel "sound quality" reproduction. They certainly do NOT help with "imaging" and/or "staging". 5.1, sure. If you want a LOUD car that sounds great, there's ways to do that using HLCDs.

I have my speakers faded to the front just a hint. I hate the sound of no rear speakers pumping. You SQ people can spout off all you want, i'm not convinced.

My 8' World Champion trophy doesn't do much for credibility does it??? I'm only here to help, but if you're convinced your car sounds good with rear speakers, bring it to an IASCA, USACi, or MECA show and compete with it...

Here's my friends - with no rear speakers:

Zebman, Steel Valley Regionals, a HUGE car audio SQ event is coming up shortly. I suggest you come!

I came off rude, and apologize. I simply find the sound hollow without fill.

That is also very weird to have a SQ event in WV, but i'm definitely down for that! Thank you for bringing that to light. Audio is my only forte.

Agreed. I'm not trying to beat a dead horse, but when I hop into my car, i'm expecting sound from my car, not my schwag home theater audio centered in front of me. I want everybody to hear adequately, not just the front passenger and driver.

I dont see why you wouldn't put speakers in the back....I'm not trying to sound like an ___ nor trying to dispute all that much, but why wouldn't you put speakers back there?????

I have only ran rear speakers so that the rear passengers have something to listen to. I almost always have them off when I am in the car by myself or at a comp.

See, that is where there is a difference for people. I want to hop in my car and not distinguish it from my home theatre set-up. Given the nature of music that is on stage, it will only come from in front of you. For me, having rear-fill sounds bad. In my old car I took out my rear speakers and I have the tC faded fully to the front.

As for other people in the car, I think there is something amiss. Let us assume that you do carry passengers more often then a couple times a month. There are 2 situations that would arise:

The first is that you want to be able to talk with these people while driving which means
the radio will just barely be up anyways and no one will care what is on.

Secondly, if the people are your friends and you just go cruising and pump the music, then rear speakers would again be useless. If you blast the music, you must realize that the front and rear are enclosed in the same space. There is not this magical wall that blocks the front speakers from entering the rear. If you have a sub and your blasting the crap out of it, I doubt the people in the rear can even hear the music if you had rear-fill.

These points are completely disregarding the fact that you probably have never ridden in the back of your own car to know how it sounds. You obviously can hear the rear while sitting in the front so they should be able to hear the front while in the rear. In my 4 years of running without rear-fill, not one person claimed they could not hear the music.

The only reason to run rear-fill is if you have a system capable of surround sound for movies. And even then, the rear speakers should only play during a movie.

Like I said, why do you assume that the people in the rear can not hear the music in front? There is no wall blocking the sound completely. If you do not talk with your friends while driving, you can bump it up a little and everyone is happy. I mean, at a DBdrag, they measure the sound pressure at the front window while the sub is in the rear. Sound travels.

I can almost guarantee that if you have a descent enough front stage, then absolutely no one in the back will notice if your rear fill is their or not.

If I were you I would add my rear fill funds to your front stage if you haven't already picked up a front stage.

But if you do end up getting rear fill dont, get anything expensive.

Take your back speakers out and look at them -- It becomes pretty obvious why they should be replaced
