Default "Permanent" GPS Mount.......hmm.

So I got a TomTom for Christmas. I had it mounted in the center of the windshield but it was blocking too much of my vision when going around turns. So I have it mounted it up in the top left corner as show below. Only bad part is that I have all this cord running around. Anyone know how to get to the power that runs to the dome lights? My dad was saying that if I didn't mind losing the cigarette lighter end of the cord, that I would be able to cut it the right length and run it into the dome and use the power from it. Cuz we noticed that you can pull the the headliner back a little bit in the front, so we thought it would be cool to run the cord behind that and into the dome where it would be invisible.

I'd have to keep a little slack inside the headliner in case I have to flip my visor down, because it hides the gps, meaning I'll have to move it down a little.

you must not have the same dumb rules that we have in california that prevents us from sticking ours to the windshield... lucky you...

but anyways... if you hook it up to the dome light power, wouldn't your GPS only get power when the dome light comes on? (like when the door is open?)

the dome lights are always hot. its only when the switch is set to turn on when the doors are open when the lights turn off.

you can either go to the dome light or go down behind the a pillar and hook it up to the fuse box

the voltage on those is not straight 12 volts so do not cut the end of the plug off. You will need to break it open and solder onto the board for the cigarette lighter.

Lol, forgot about this thread.

I got this taken care of this morning. I went to advance and got a cig. lighter extension thing and used the female end, just cutting the rest off. That way I could use the plug without breaking it open.

But I went to the sunroof plug instead of the light. Not long after starting this thread, I saw where one guy hardwired his radar detector and so I just followed his method.

For the most part it wasn't too badly in the way when I had it in the middle...but going around right turns it just was a slight distraction. Plus, I didn't like the long cord running everywhere.

It's just something unique/different working with what I have. Some people mentioned getting different GPS's but I mean...that had nothing to do with my question. *rolls eyes*
