Default A-Pillar Tweets with Side Bags?

I recently bought the image enhancement tweeters from cdt, and i was wondering if it is
possible to mount the tweeters in the a-pillars. I have side air bags and i don't want to mess
them up in any way, nor do i want them to go off while i'm trying to wire up my tweeters. I was
thinking that further up the dash there might not be bags, am I correct? Or am I going to blow
my car up?

hmmm......interesting question......maybe you could use the sail panels (the backside of your side-view mirrors) if the a-pillar isn't usable...

That was initially what i had thought also. So, I stuck my tweeters there to listen, and they
sound like crap when on the sail panels. I don't know why, but the image enhancement
tweeters sound best when placed further up the dash, so that they reflect off of the windshield.
I'm hoping that the side airbags fire downwards, out from under the panels, rather than firing
straight out and hitting the panels. Is this the case? I hate to ask, but has anybody had them
fire after an accident?

me personally I would stage them near your mid's in the doors and not up high but thats my humble opinion..

Heres a little bit from Crutchfield

"Tweeter placement
Installing the tweeters will require some panel modifications, as very few vehicles have existing tweeter mounts. How much modification depends on how you mount your tweeters. Surface-mounting places the entire tweeter on top of whatever surface you're attaching it to. Surface-mounting tweeters requires less modification to your interior than flush-mounting, but will leave you with a more noticeable installation. In a flush-mount, a hole is cut into the door panel that is large enough to accomodate the tweeter, and the speaker is installed level with the interior panel. Whichever you decide, most manufacturers recommend that you mount your tweeters within 12" of the woofers. Otherwise, a sonic wave cancellation, or "phase interference" could occur, caused by the frequencies reaching your ears at different times. Some good places to surface-mount your tweeters are on the door, the sail panel, the kick panel, or the dash."

Good luck with the install

generally, you'd be correct in advising the tweeter placement near the mid in the door.....but with the CDT image enhancement system, you need them in the a-pillars firing directly at eachother... that is the way the tweeters are designed to be mounted....

I've taken it off and it looks like the bag fires right down the door windows basically covering the side window so your head won't hit it. It appears the pillar does not come off, it merely gets pushed up to let the bag pass once it fires. If the pillar does come off, It appears it would get pushed forward towards the windshield upon deployment of bag. I'm not 100% sure, but it's what it looks like to me.

Yup, should have a normal tweeter...placed where it would normally go.

IEK tweet goes up on the A-pillar/dash to raise the stage height.

I would just slap it on the sail or the dash; putting it over an airbag sounds dangerous.

I think if it's placed as recommended per CDT, it should not interfere with the airbag....it will be far enough forward that the airbag won't interfere with it (or vice versa)....the cirtain airbags cover the front side windows....why would an airbag of that style deploy up by the winshield???

Well, I'm going to give it a shot then. I've never heard of a curtain airbag firing up by the
windshield, and i'm glad nobody else has either. I'll attempt to mount them in the a-pillars
tomorrow. I'm worn out tonight, as I had a 2 1/2 gallon jug of chlorine explode in my face today,
and that was the highlight of the day.
