Pioneer Navigation... Good?
Hey guys,
I am looking at getting a Pioneer Avic-X920BT. I have read a lot of reviews on Pioneer systems in general, and have read some troubling things about the navigation functionality. I used to have a Garmin handheld unit that I loved, but sold to help fund a new in-dash navigation unit. Can anyone vouch for the quality of the navigation? I typically use it in cities (Philadelphia) because that is where I am least familiar with the roads, and sometimes in the suburbs. I don't expect the navigation to be flawless, I just want it to work and not get lost. Any feedback on the navigation ability in the Pioneer in-dash units is greatly appreciated!

I have the U310BT and assuming the nav is probably similar (if not, the same) as the other Pioneer models in the current line-up. The routing of the navigation is fine, however, the map isn't as easy or clean to read as a Garmin or TomTom unit. My biggest gripe is it doesn't always display the street names of the cross streets when driving through intersections. So it might not be very good to be used as a "as you drive" map.
If you're looking to get the X920BT, Amazon currently has a good deal on it...
Currrent price: $895.00
30% off coupon code UIBMC8UY (brings it to $626.50)
$100 Mail-in rebate from Pioneer (http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...igation+Rebate)
=$526.50

Ya I did briefly look at the Kenwood models because I love the Garmin navigation platform. The interface didn't look as nice however, and the few reviews I read said the iPod navigation was slow. I primarily want a head unit that has a user friendly interface, fast ipod navigation, and maps to get me to A-B. If anyone knows more about the Kenwoods, please correct me! How does Kenwood compare to the Pioneer in other aspects aside from navigation?
Thanks guys, great info

I have the x910bt, it can be buggy sometimes, can hang up when i hook up my ipod or usb key drive.
biggest gripe with it.....it doesnt say if your destination is on the right of the left.

I have the kenwood 6140 right now it is the 2009 model navigation and bluetooth it is amazing with the IPOD controls its pretty fast but its a little buggy with bluetooth but thats because i have not upgraded the firmware which has been out for awhile. I love the navigation i even upgraded to the 2010 maps and and stay pretty constant in upgraded my own POI (red light cameras, food and known spped traps), My only gripe is that it is not very User Friendly as compared to the pionner 920 , and having a girlfriend that is not very tech savy i get too change headunit = ) . I am in the process of buying the 920bt (espicially with the coupon code listed early) that price is amazing for a great headunit, the 411 forum guys love to hack into the 910 so ill give a little time before they rip into a 920 and upload there own maps with everything you can imagine. EVERYTHING. lol, I advise you to just go into a store displaying the 920 or find someone that has one and just play around with it you will love this headunit, its great and since i have a IPHONE it is perfect.

I was actually thinking of going into Bestbuy or something to toy around with it. I am thinking as long as the navigation is decent... I think the cost and UI will push me towards getting the 920. Especially with the 30% off - thank you H2k, great find! I do love the Garmin navigation... but I think I will sacrifice it. The idea of hacking into it is also very exciting... so I may have to go over and see what they did to the 910 units. Great info, thanks!

I went with the Avic 3200BT for anyone who pulls this thread up. I couldn't part with the Garmin navigation. Although, I did just learn that telenav is owned by tomtom... so I bet the GPS in the pioneer is pretty solid based on that. I however cannot be without Garmin, and did not like the ipod navigation on the Kenwood.
