Alright sweet... so if im hearing you guys right, bypassing the e-brake should be as easy as just grounding that wire instead? I should be all set?

Yeah, just ground it to anything and it'll work.. I used the same ground needed for my DVD player.

It has NOTHING to do with being able to do two things at once, it is retarted to do, period.. and if someone hits me while watching a DVD.. they BETTER be hurt, or they will be when I am finished with them. .same goes with getting in an accident while talking on a cell phone... STUPID TO DO. One thing that makes me violently angry is people being idiots and causing a wreck because they have to be watching something or talking on the damned phone all the time.

But... all that aside

All DVD players I know of that have come out in the last few years have a safety wire that runs to the ebrake. Some have multiple screen outputs, so only the main screen (drivers view) is disabled while driving. On top of that, many also have gyros, or use the GPS system in concurence with the ebrake signal to make it harder to bypass... and I am sure I could tear one apart and create a nice simple bypass... but reading above I am sure you will guess what my answer to that would be :D

in order to bypass the gyro ones you have to open the cd player and solder a wire. your local stereo shop most likely knows which wire it is.

as far as the watching dvd, obviously im not blatently staring at the screen, but i do glance, and it was on open road. you stay on 64 for over 500 miles heading to zpi, and in the middle of the night, its a dead road.

^^ Trust me, I know of dead road ... I have taken 7 trips in the tC to my home town, which is a 650 mile trip each way through Iowa and Missouri. 4 of those trips were starting at 9 pm and all of them driven straight through other than one gas stop in the middle and one stop for a snack. In my other car I made that same trip about 8 or 9 other times, plus driving from OK to Washington DC. Not fun after the 6th or 7th hour rolls by, but my feeling is that if you need to watch something to stay awake you are way to tired to keep driving. Not trying to bash you, but just my feeling.

Here in the south, most states have laws that make it illegal to have a video screen playing in view of the driver.

same here, but if you can show it has navigation its not illegal, but if there is no navigation you can get a ticket for even having the tv there, doesnt matter if its on.

just grounding the p/b wire on the alpine will NOT work. requires foot and hand brakes. two switches are required. ground for the e-brake, and 12 volts for the foot brake. the foot brake has to be pressed while you turn the e-brake on and off twice. simple solution....ground the e-brake with a switch in series, and run the foot brake thru a switch and to 12volts. then you just turn on the foot brake switch and toggle the e-brake switch two times, turn off the foot brake switch. done. pain in the a$$, but not to tough.

see this is why they have to come up with a car that drives itself, that way we could just watch all the movies we want. Or just put the cruise control on, i'm pretty sure it does the same thing.

When I get the Alpine dub-din I plan on playing music videos and such. I go on trips back and forth b/w Boston and Philly, sometimes with people so a movie would be nice to have. Anything that will keep me attentive while im on the road is good for me.

I don't "watch" mine while I drive but I do play DVD's alot. I buy alot of music dvd's and listen to that instead of my Ipod. For example I let my Linkin Park live in Texas DVD play all the time. but I dont watch it.

^^ AMEN to that!!! There is zero logic behind doing it. Even the "playing games at stop lights" thing is lacking some sense. If something is happening, you will never get a chance to move out of the way because you arent looking. Not to mention I garauntee that person is one of those sitting at the green light until someone honks at them. A great example of needing to be attentive even at a stop light came from my experience. I was sitting at a light years ago, first person in line. Since I like to keep an eye out around me, I happened to look up and notice the word FORD getting bigger and bigger (very rapidly) in my rear view mirror I let off the brake and hit the gas, since there was no traffice crossing. He still hit me, but with much less force than if I had been playing video games while waiting... I can understand listening to audio on a dvd, but having any type of video up on the screen while driving is not smart, end of story. There is no logical argument to the contrary. Hopefully people realize this before they get themselves killed, or even worse, someone else.

^^^^^Like I said it's just playing. I pay no attention to it at all. I am a fireman I know about safety. I wouldn't do anything to jepordize people's safety. However not everyone is like me so I can see your logic. Not only that but I wouldn't do anything to so much as put a scratch in my baby. It's no different then listening to a cd to me.

In my last car I had a dvd player for like 3 years. It wasn't illegal when I got it, but was later made illegal, but I never had any issues with it. I figured if I ever got pulled over I could just shut it off and close it. And with the tc I suppose you could just shut the door over the screen as you pull over.
Most of the time the screen was on I wasn't watching, just listening and glancing down every other second. I'd usually see a movie in a day and a half of driving, and it gave me a chance to finally go through those commentary tracks. Plus, when I had a movie on I'd usually go like 10 mph less than usual.
