playing movies while driving prob*(audio only)
Hey
I just installed my clarion max 764vd
I dont know if aother dvd players have the prob that they wont play while driving because of a groundwire safety feature.
On the clarion there a wire that has to be connected to the parking brake light wire, and the funny thing is you cant just ground it. The dvd player has to somehow sense that there is a interruption in the signal of the ground wire before it will play. To clarify, even if you put it has directed on the parking brake youll have to disengage and ingage it again to make it work. If the parking brake is not active it will say audio only while playing a dvd. Well theres a simple solution. Just ground this cable someplace that isnt the parking brake and set a interruption switch on it. This way its contstantly grounded and when you want play a dvd just press the button wich causes the groung to open and close wich fools the dvd player and then you can play while driving.
I dont know if someone did this already, probably but hope it helps
Sorry no pics

Yeah many different companies are going to a sequence on the parking break wire so that it can't just be grounded any more. The Pioneer Avic's use the gyro sensor also to sense if the car is moving and it shuts off video even if you have the parking break on a switch. There are still ways to get around it though. Good info though!

hey u said theres a way to get around the video cutting out when driving for the newest pioneer avic?????
If the driver is watching movies while driving, they should be hit with a baseball bat. That is why the safety feature is there. Sorry, but the only thing more stupid than talking on your cell while driving and street racing is fools driving around watching a dvd while in the drivers seat. Hopefully they get better at using the gps portion so you CANT get around it.

Thats fine... but having a movie playing in the front of the car is just WAY too distracting to the driver. That is why they put in the safety features. Too many ways to die or kill someone else in a car these days, and that is just one more. Sure, it would be nice to have something playing while on long trips, and a cell phone is a nice way to pass the time. But I think the risk of killing others outweighs that, which is why I dont even look at my phone when driving.
I get what your saying and its true...
But id hope people would common sense and not actually look at the thing while your driving. But i wanted it to be working also. I did it because it was kinda lame to me that it would not play while the car is in motion. personally i dont find it distracting, but thats just me

I built a mini-switch bypass for mine. Do I ever use it to watch anything when the car is moving? No. Do I sometimes need to restart a DVD for the kids in the back and need to see the menu? Yes. Have I ever been trapped in a drive thru for 20 minutes? Oh yes.
It has it's purpose.
It has it's purpose.
I guess I didnt think about those things
Especially the drive through. My worry is that there are a lot of people that will use this to have their screens showing while cruising around the loop.. I see too many of those these days already. I actually have seen 2 different people READING a book on their steering wheel while driving as well. The sheer stupidity of people frightens me!
Here's a simple answer:
DON'T WATCH MOVIES/VIDEOS WHILE DRIVING. Dr Iso, is it really that big of a problem to just sit for 20 minutes waiting? Sing a song, count your change. I think this stuff is a sign, it's amazing how so many people can't just be patient and wait for once. Life doesn't move on your time.

When it gets to the point where you can tell me what I can and can't do in a drive-thru, the world is pretty much over. Sure, I could do it the way the manufacturer intended, and double-cycle the e-brake handle every time I move forward, or I could install a switch and defeat that.
It's my car, and it's my responsibility when to watch movies and when not to. I'm not an idiot, and I can take care of myself. The real problem is that they have to put in the disablers to begin with... because there are so many idiots that will watch movies when driving.
But to jump to the next level and say I shouldn't be able to watch a movie when trapped in the drive thru... Dude. Just shut up.

Oh, blah blah blah blah. So much time for contemplation at the sweet age of 21. Wait until it's work, or kids, or kids and work 18 hours of the day, and the twenty minutes of waiting in the drive-thru seems a sweet relief... and not time I'd like to spend twiddling my thumbs and counting the spare change.
I can't believe we're both still stuck on the drive-thru thing.

i honestly don't like the feature, but i respect the fact that it's there. despite the warnings/disclousre even for just the GPS system that most units use (press ok to agree disclosure crap)... in general there are people out there doing things they shouldn't and are not capable of doing.
it's useful to actually be able to use the damn GPS and search for something on the road, vice pulling over, pulling up the damn brake, input where i want to go, and then take off again.... it's stupid. (and indended for people who are)
i'm sorry.. but crap like that ____es me off to no end.. suffering from the stupidity of others.
i think we should all just agree to disagree, i have a feeling that this thread will get really heated and people will say things they dont really mean or generalized statements that will offend people. the thread is about a bypass to the rule not our opinions on the rule

ok.. i'll just end this thread on the note that,
yea... there are ways to bypass such security type things.. and the companies know that too..
for a perfect example, pioneer realizes people do it anyway even after the security was implemented into the software.
but since after the d1 and n2's that came back to them because people didn't know how to solder properly and broke their units, pioneer actually installed switches on the n3, d2 and on their newer units to easily do that bypass.
the catch? it's behind a tamper-proof seal.. you break it, pioneer isn't liable for your stupidity.
okay.. hopefully that concludes this thread.
people do what they want to do.. and if you end up winning a darwin award... oh yay.. good for the rest of society... just don't hurt anyone else in the process.
