Polk SR series
I used to have the components. IMO, there are better things for the money. They're a bit too laid back for me, and the tweeter can be difficult to work with. I suggest the Premier 720 set. It's almost impossible to beat 'till you look at speakers over $1000...
The Alpine SPX17 set is also a VERY good pre-configured component set for <$1000.
I've heard that there are much better ways to spend your money than on the SR's from polk though. Do some research online. Car Audo Mag (I think?) does reviews on sets like these. Check it out.
And if you're looking to build your own component set, check out diymobileaudio.com and ask around about Seas, MB Quarts, Focals, etc. A search on there will find you a TON of info. Good luck!

i've got to 12 inch Polk Audio SR Series 124 DVCs. They POUND the hell out of my car, and I have em in sealed enclosure. They have really really tight response. If I were to put them in a vented enclosure I don;t think my windows would last
.
p.s. I'm pushing each with a c500.1 amp
