Default ported 10 or sealed 12?

Im setting up a system for my friend and he only wants it to take up a certain amount of room. He can either go ported 10 or sealed 12, which one do you think would sound better? He wants it to be the best sound and loud for the size. Figure I would come here since I know there are plenty of audio guys that can give me a hand.

To many variables to tell. Which subs, how much power etc. If all things are relatively equal I would do the ported 10.

i would hit up ported its more efficient with a tiny amp,,, but then again a sealed box sounds mean with tight bass.. like the guy who posted above me... to many variables... i love the sound of a sealed box.. but i kill for the sound of a ported box smashing out mad bass... its what your buddy prefers... plus i would check out some of the other guys set ups in the ice and interior section of Tc forums... there is a show your system thread those should give ya some fine examples...

i have the rockford fosgate 1000bd amp that puts out 1246 RMS at one ohm powering two rockford fosgate 12 inch P3's that take 500 RMS each! ITS WAY TOO MUCH and big for that trunk i have had them in bth a sealed box then a ported one. i loved them both but the subs reqiuire a quibic foot. both box's rub on my trunk and when they hit it looks like its gonna shatter my hatch window, i wish i had gone with the 10's

its a fi ssd powered by a us amps merlin md1d. The amp puts 1200 rms at 1 ohm. He is going to get the sub with a flatwind coild which allows the sub to handle more power.

its just a 10 not 10s. He only wants to take up a corner of the trunk with either a proted 10 or sealed 12. But I think that ill get him to get the 10

my cvr required 2.25cu for a ported box... and the tline box i purchased had it to specs.....i have been into systems since i got my first car almost 14yrs ago....and i always went sealed box for space...but since i have had my scion tc,, ported in cab sounds way louder...... but thats my opinion..good luck with the install
