Default Possible Ignition Killswitch Idea.... (Input Needed)

I've been wanting to do this for a while now, I just don't know how to. I want to install an on/off toggle switch on the "switch/foglight" panel that is connected to the ignition. Basically flip the switch on and it'll allow you to turn over the engine... When the switch is in the off position the car wont start... Just to help prevent anyone from hijacking my car. A buddy of mine had this done on his Integra when he baught it. Anyone know how I would go about doing this? I tried searching threads on Push Start buttons to get an idea but I didn't find any help. Any input is appreciated.

just make a switch that will open the circuit on the fuel pump fuse.. it'll turn over, but no start... if you dont want it to turn over, you will have to run a switch from the starter (needs a heavy duty switch for this i think...)

this is a dumb idea though, especially if the switch is in sight...

First off thanks for the info... and if knew how to do any of that stuff like you mention above I wouldn't be asking for help on this thread. I need more of a guidance and a how-to.

Second, yer opinion about it being dumb is unnecessary... I asked for input, not criticism. I will be next to my other rocker switches for my lights so it will blend in and not stand out as a just a killswitch. I just thought it would be a cool extra feature to have and wheter you think so or not is yer opinion.

Anyhow, can anyone help me out with this? (and Keep you opinions to yerself.)

haha sorry, what I meant was dumb is that a car theif can still easily take your car!

ok well, i think what your best bet is is to take out the fuse from the fuse box for the fuel pump, put in a mini fuse tap in its place, run the wire from the tap to a fuse, then to a SPST rocker swtich in the dash, then for the other end of the switch, just run it back to the other side of the fuse tap

do you need a diagram?

to do the ignition kill, you're going to need to run a relay so that you don't need a humongous switch. If the above guy would post a wiring diagram, i'll show you where you need to tap

killing the ignition does nothing... you can pop open the hood and directly apply 12v to the starter, bypassing any kind of ignition switch....

fuel cutoff through fuel pump is your best bet.

that would require a pretty big wire, let alone two people. one to hold the wire on, another to start.

i would prefer both :D

what are you talking about? just needs a wire from the + side of the battery to the starters 12v lead... lol... no more than 2 feet

and this alone will start the car, it's all that turning the key does

big as in a larger diameter. the starter draws some decent amperage, i wouldn't want to be holding that wire

the wires going to my starter are much smaller than 4 gauge wire, that should be sufficient, and wear welding gloves if you do it ;-)

the best bet going about this is like stated above... the fuel cutoff... and hiding the switch better than just on the switch panel...

on the side i do a lot of these, stash boxes, and all kinds of illeagle stuff... the best bet is your full cutoff... cause all a thief has to do is just jump your starter with a wire like said above... and you can do it will as small a wire as say 10 or 12 gauge...... but immeadiatly... if he doesnt have a key... and immobilizer in your key will not let the car start...

how can the car start if the fuel cut switch is activated? jump all you want but no fuel = car go no where

also with mounting the switch you can mount it in a non-obscure spot because who would look there.

if someone was gonna hijack you... they probably make u flip the killswitch on... second.. if u dont want your car to get stolen... take off ur wheels and put it on blocks... If you dont notice the tow truck taking ur car away... well... i dont know... maybe just disconnect ur battery every night.

If someone is determine enough your car will be gone.

Hijacker... "Hmm the car wont start... gets angry and smashs ur windshield and takes all the change in your car... and leaves"

Did anyone got to do this. I'm very interested in the fuel cut switch. Any one has a diagram to where I should run this?
