Default Power Inverter = Blown Fuse

Hi, I'm in the market to get another power inverter after the one I had blew my cig lighter fuse. But first I need help. The inverter I had was a Duracell 100watt mini inverter. I bought it for my laptop which is a MT6451. I'm pretty sure it draws about 65w. When I first got the inverter I went out to my car with it and my laptop, turned my car to the on position and proceeded to plug in everything. Well, as soon as i flipped the switch the inverter started pulsing a red light and my laptop recognized AC power on and off, then the inverter just flat out died...and I checked my cig fuse and its blown. Why did 65w blow the fuse?

Now, I'm looking for a new inverter. What do you guys recommend I can get that will A) power my laptop B) plug into cig lighter without blowing a fuse

I've already done some searching and found some things about Monster Powerstation and Vector products but I want some more recent opinions. I still felt I needed a new thread after searching.

if you are willing to spend a bit more money and time you should invest in a power inverter that will plug directly to your battery.

Laptops draw a lot more power than i tought also.

I know the cig lighter is probably a 15-25amp fuse so you might look into that also.

You can pick up and inverter that plug on the battery at at part store or walmart

i havea 75w max in my car (powers ps2, laptop, batt charger - not all at once). i used to keep on popping too. but i just upped my fuse to fix it. not to mention, the tC's fuses are super sensitive for the cig lighters imo. i just plugged in my phone charger into the one near the shifter and it popped. lol

You turned on the inverter and it powered up the laptop power pack at the same time and created a double power surge that exceeded the flast blow fuse in the lighter circuit. You could try a slow blow 15 amp fuse if there is such a thing for these fuse types or wire up a separate lighter socket on a separate connection to the battery for the inverter. They will draw less amps if the voltage of the battery is higher like when the engine is running. Could also try powering up the power pack for the laptop with it plugged into the laptop then plug it in after all the LEDS are lit on teh inverter and power pack. This will reduce the surge at startup but is sounds like you need about a 20 amp circuit.
