Default Problem with the Stock Radio Display (05)

Recently i have noticed that sometimes my display will not show up properly...it works fine. it is not a sign of a weak battery i think??? any ideas what could be causing this?

We've had tons of problems with radios on most of the Toyota's, I'd take it to the dealer and see if they can replace it, if you are still under Warranty. (3\36)

We've done radios on Camrys Tundras Tacoma Rav4s Corollas, and I'm sure there are some I've missed.

it almost looks like the lcd display has died in those areas you can't read. I think the radio has finally died (display at least). Might look into a new aftermarket one since they're cheaper than another factory radio.

yeah the reliability wasn't that great on the 05's, I think it's great it lasted this long for the OP. Might be time for an aftermarket unit, oh wait I said that before, nevermind

I'm still rocking my stock head unit in the '05. I hate the push button volume control enough to mandate a turn **** as a requirement for the soon to be replacement.

Not being an audiophile and wanting it to look near OEM with the matching back lighting...this one will suit me fine:
http://www.amazon.com/JVC-Double-DIN.../dp/B003EO8UNS

So my vote goes to get an aftermarket head unit.

that one does not look too bad and i agree with what you said about matching the OEM one as much as possible...i am not looking for anything fancy either...it should ideally be a plug and play requiring no drilling/trimming....

depends on how much you'd like to spend, lots of different levels of good offerings. give us a price. I was partial to that JVC linked above. I'd rather buy it from Crutchfield.com since I've been buying stuff for years from them. i think that JVC was like $199.95 at crutchfield and they're sold out, temporarily.

you'd also have to listen to it first, what looks good on paper is good, but might not be what sounds good to your ears.

$200 looks like a decent price but i did a little googling and i think i would want one with the navi and bluetooth/handsfree also (my wife is not tooooo excited about that :--) )i am planning to keep this car for as long as i can. i have a garmin and had been thinking of mounting it somewhere on the dashboard and concealing the wires but i think a head unit with a navi would be a better option.

i am okay with spending ~$500. i would like one which can be installed with minimal modification and the door should close.

yes, i have heard good things about Crutchfield also but the same JVC unit seems to be available for $160 on amazon. JVC KW-XR810 seems to be newer version with handsfree/bluetooth already included ($211 on amazon). Not sure if it will be plug and play though.

as far as listening to it goes, i don't really care too much about the sound quality..i am used to listening to the oem sound so i would assume it should be atleast better than that :--) but you are right that it might not be the same as what they claim in their spec.
