Default Question about Navigation units??

I'm really looking at investing in a navi unit but honestly i don't want to spend $1400 if the unit is not going to do what i really want it to do.

i'm looking at the eclipse avn5435. My main question is does the navi unit constantly track where you are. the reason i'm asking is because i'm from Southeast Texas and we had one hell of a time yesterday last year from the evacuation from the hurricane.

so my question is will the navi unit track me on the map if i have to make a detour because of the hurricane evacution route.

sorry if i sound a lil confusing, i just hope someone can answer my question.

Also i tried asking the people at Circuit City and Best Buy but they didn't know to much information

Thanks in advance for anyone that help me

i have the avn for 1500 and i think if ur just looking for a good navi. u should go to pioneer avic-d. u can get it installed for 1200 and probably work better since it have real-time traffic. just my opinion

yes it does....I love it, its very accurate. Like when I back into my garage it shows me in the area my garage is...i now kinda wish i got a diff unit with ipod interface, but the eclipse just plug in so easy w/ no wiring its almost worth it.

the reason i'm looking at the 5435 is because it has dvd play back also. i'm not really looking for a real time navigation because traffic in my town is not that bad. the only reason i'm looking to get a navigation now is because i hated having that lost feeling when i was evacution from the hurricane.

also i have a circuit city CC and they are offering no interest in jan of 2008. so that's a really good deal since i can finance at zero interest

ya, i got mine at Circuit City with a new account so i got 10% off because I asked them dont I get 10% for a new account...otherwise I wouldnt of. But I got the no interest til 2008 too, the reason I got it...i LOVE not being lost! I suck at directions. it rules vs my pocket pc nav I had lol.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Circuit City's workmanship a little shotty? That's the reputation that my local Circuit City has.

i've had every alarm and speaker replacement/stereo system i've put into my new cars done at my local circuit city and they've done excellent jobs every time. that's just one shop out of many, though.

its just like anyplace, its a matter of who works there. cant really judge one store vs another....but can sway an opinion i guess....

$100 install vs $0 doing myself= I did it. The tC is super easy to take apart and install the avn5435 because it uses the same harness plugs as the stock unit. just a few pulls and the dash comes apart, few screws the stock units out...unplug it, plug in new one (with mod'd brackets or the kit thats plastic (less sturdy) then wire in 3 wires to get it goin and put it together and your done!

saves $100 and was super easy! and i know nothing about electronics and wiring really and works fine...only worry is my warranty card...i put it was installed at a friends shop so it looked pro installed, but they prob arent a authorized installer, so screwed either way. goodluck! hehe

the main reason i want to install myself is to learn a lil bit more about my car. also so i can watch dvd while the driving. not that i'll actually be doing it very much.

Question on the 5435 all you have to do is ground the parking brake sensor correct????

Both the D1 and the Eclipse unit are great units. I've never had a problem (getting the wrong directions or being off the map) with the D1, and I know that eclipse uses more updated maps.

As for Circuit City, I have some serious issues with them at this point. Never before my tC have they been a problem.. but they've done more damage to my car then anything else. I doubt they'd be able to cause serious damage doing a radio/navigation install (those are difficult to mess up, cept the speedsense needed for the D1).
