Default Question on on Head Unit for 2008 tC

Hey guys, I had a 01' golf that was totaled so I pulled out my Pioneer DEH-7800MP. Just bought a new scion tc and I am debating whether or not to get the 7800 installed or just stick to the stock system (it's just the basic one). In line with that will I need to get the ipod kit for the 7800 or will the one that comes with the stock system (in the center console) be backwards compatible?

What hardware will I need to install the 7800? I have the stuff that came with my golf kit but i don't think it will fit.

Thanks for any help!

You will need to buy a new wiring harness, but if you want iPod you will also need an ipod kit for your Pioneer. The factory iPod controls have a unique plug which probably won't work with your Pioneer.

As far as the iPod adapter you will need this: Pioneer CD-IB100ii iPod® Interface Adapter.

So would it be a worthwhile upgrade from stock in terms of sound quality, etc?

my girlfriend just bought an 08 tC. it came with the ipod thing in the arm rest already installed (standard i believe). when u turn it up to like 25 in her car it sounds amazing esp when u change the car setting to xB. id say spend the money on something else. sell the existing HU on ebay. tCs come with pioneers wich are pretty sick, the 08 especially, hers has everything my 05 stock HU is lacking.

Really can't field that question, I swapped out my stock head unit about a week after getting the car. To be honest, for some strange reason I kinda miss the stock unit.

you may wanna stick with the stock unit for a while unless you are not happy with it which i doubt. the stock is a pretty decent unit unless you're looking for a big jump like navi, dvd or something like that..

hmm what you mods you have already? you got sways or spring? maybe you consider suspension first before that and you'll feel more improvement.

Haven't done a damn thing yet. I am having tint put on next Wednesday as well as the pedestal spoiler. From there I am not sure what route to take. I don't want to do the suspension until I get my new wheels and I still haven't decided on those. I think I want the OZ Ultraleggera's though, black finish.

I haven't every really gotten into upgrading a car so this is all new to me.

i say install the aftermarket headunit. even though the stock deck is good, since you already have the aftermarket deck might as well utilize it, and the ipod control on that thing (7800) is super sweet. only reason i say install it is because it will give you alot better control (13band EQ, HPF, LPF, slope controls, etc).. all of which the stock deck doesnt have. sure you need to buy the adapter, but imo id rather install that deck over the stock

if you install it you will need the single din mounting kit (pm me if you need one) and the toyota wire harness.

also of course the ipod adapter, and to fully utilize the steering wheel controls the PAC-SWI-PS, this will allow you to program your wheel remote to whatev you see fit (i turned my mode into att.. which helps alot when a phone call comes).

since you already have the deck, might as well use it, and its a great deck over the stock one

Awesome information! I do have one question, do the steering wheel controls still light up?
