Question to those of you who have Sirius satellite Radio.
If you have Sirius radio in your car, how is the sound quality? I just got it installed this morning in my Scion TC and I'm really disappointed in the sound quality. There is no static, the reception is fine except for it getting the occasional no signal sign. But the sound quality is like I'm listening to songs on AM radio. I am getting better sounding music out of my FM radio then my satellite. It is not even close to the CD quality that they advertise it as. Is this normal or is it possible that the dealer wired it wrong?

Sattelite radio is similar to MP3 quality... If you run a FM modulator... it's that much worse... the best option is to connect directly to the aux in on the stereo...
It's not super high quality though....

I have the TOY03 Aux input.
The Aux input connects to the disc-changer plug in the back of the stock headunit. Then from my ipod & Sirius radio, I have a mini-jack (headphone jack)-to-RCA cable.
The Sirius radio, as far as sound quality, is not so hot really. You can't blame the stereo or the connections, because I also have an ipod hooked up through the TOYO03 and it sounds terrific. The Sirius radio I got (Xact Replay) sounds muffled. But it's MORE noticeable on talk radio than music channels.
I'm thinking the quality of the radio is not about reception, but about what brand receiver you buy. I got one of the cheapest Sirius radios, so I think that's a direct correlation. I have 0% problems with reception.
But I got my Sirius for Howard Stern, so I could care less about music-sound quality. As long as I can hear Howard!

My antenna is actually above the driver's side door.
Again, I have to point out though: It's not reception or interference, it's the muffled quality. Almost as if the radio has a low volume output (and yes, the volume on the sat radio itself is turned all the way up). Even if I turn the volume up louder on my headunit, it still sounds low on treble. So it sounds GOOD, it just sounds low. I feel this is just the quality of the Sirius radio I have, not about set-up. It would be nice if my Sirius unit had it's own EQ I could adjust.
If it was a problem with the TOY03, then my ipod would sound like ____e too, but it doesn't. It sounds perfect.
lol. With that kind of power your Sirius is running through, I doubt you'd notice if there was a quality difference! Even then, you probably have a more capable EQ on the Kenwood than a stock unit, and could probably compensate by adjusting. Try this next time: Keep your audio at one setting, then switch from Howard 100 to a music station, then to RAW DOG Comedy Channel. You'll notice the volume differences.

Oh, for sure man! That's not silly by the way, sometimes people have problems and it's something so simple.
I got a mini-jack to AUX input cable from the Sirius unit to a TOY03 box.
I know all about the different settings (xa, xb, and tc) and what not. I've got my headunit on the xA setting, with the treble and bass maxed out to 5, all the speakers are equal.
I'm not bothered by it at all. Like I said, this is a much cheaper Sirius radio that you get at Target. Eventually I'll get one like yours, that doubles as a recorder, but for something I got from my friends for Christmas, I'm not complaining at all. I'm just happy I get to hear Stern when he debuts on 01/09/06!!!

As both XM and Sirius increase channels without extra bandwidth the SQ is lost due to greater compression. Sirius is playing around with video now so it's only getting worse. I listen to my iPod 90% of the time and only listen to Sirius for talk radio.
My sound quality in the car is much worse than in the home. It seems to get worse. I remember when I had it first connected it sounded awesome (I thought). However that was on a very nice custom audio system.
Sirius is the only satellite provider to have adaptive bandwidth (not sure if thats the term) so that more bandwidth is available to stations that need it, etc. I don't think they are going to sacrifice *much* quality for quantity or video.
That video is going to rock - peace up to XM.

I have Sirius set up in my cavalier. I have a Panasonic head-unit that is directly connected and it sounds great. To match the volume of CD I have to turn it up, maybe, 2-3 notches (out of 40). The same goes when I use my iPod in the AUX input so its good.
Check everything, I like the quality.
