Default A question for you electrical guys

Ok, so I had a horrible night last night, i had just installed my headlights which had just had angel eyes put in them, and i was driving around with my friend last night taking pictures. Well, while he was taking pictures of his car, i decided to switch the order of my switches, so i pulled out the the connector from the back of the switch (GSW 45), and put it on the new switch. It sparked, i figured i just missed, so i did it again. This time, smoke came bellowing out of the hood, and under the drivers side footwell. I panicked and pulled, flipped off all of the switches, got out, screamed expletives, trying to see if my car was on fire. Thankfully it wasn't, but the main wire that brings power into the car had melted. So today i redid all of my wiring, much better and more organized this time. I figure that if i would have had this wire fused none of this would have happened. So i fused the wire this time, and this is what it looks like:

I am running Oznium angel eyes, 6 Cold Cathodes (3 Transformers), JLeviSW Illumina V2 Puddle Lights, and Fog Panels by Amoxaphobic.

I put the 3 fuse in the fuse box, and nothing turned on. So then i put the 5 fuse in, and everything works. Is this the proper fuse? Is it in a good position.

I'll post pictures of my super duper installation tomorrow after i move in to UCM. I had to pull all of my red wires, even ones that weren't melted. And I learned I am using around 40+ feet of wire in my car.

Always fuse your wires is the moral of the story, as well as not being an idiot!

just a little pointer for you i would put your fuse holder as close to the battery as possible just incase the wire becomes exposed before the fuse which will cause the same problem again. is there an amperage rating on them somewhere? i would put at least a 10 to 15 amp fuse on them

x2, put the fuse on the other side of the fire will, within 18" of the battery... the 5amp is prolly enough, none of those lights should draw that much power... what size wire are you using?

here's the thing.. fuse closer to battery means less wire go melty, melty when something really bad happens... and hopefully assuming that the fuse finally pops when crap hits the fan.
