Radar Wiring Question
I want to mount my radar unit fairly low on the windshield, right above the dash essentially. I plan on hardwiring the unit, but would like it to be discreet. Is there a way I could sneak the wiring underneath the center of the dash? I would prefer to do this without taking apart the entire thing if it's possible.
So, thoughts? Here is a quick picture of my planned mounting location:

Reasons for wanting to mount it low:
1. Better laser detection
2. More discreet (no wire dangling from the headliner)
And please spare me the "radar detectors are useless/bad" speech. Thank you.

K a few things: You are screwed with Laser no matter what so detecting laser better will not help you. I suggest that you read up more on this. Plus having it in the middle there ensures that cops see it when pulled over or thieves can see it when the car is parked.
I have mine up top next to the rear view mirror, as this is better for detection of other bands (X,K, Ka, KU) and also so that it is less noticeable. From the rear and side of the car no one can see it. In this location it was very easy to run the wiring in the A pillar to the fuse box and hard wire.

-I won't leave it on the dash when the car is parked
-I have done plenty of reading on the topic and am aware of the capability of these technologies.
Gamma, thanks for the pics, that's what I was looking for.
yup thats the easiest way i found for a clean install. I tapped the cig lighter since i had the remote wiring, ran it under the knee airbag, fished it up through the a-pillar. Removing the a-pillar is a must so you can run it in the gap between the dash and the windshield all the way the radar.
I also put a little foam tape every 8" or so around the wire to keep it down in that gap so the wire always stayed put.

Well you can actually ground it with the cigarette lighter... meaning if your taping into the power source, you might as well tap into the ground as well. If you do it to the radio same concept. The wires are not going to be as easy as red for positive and black for negative though. OR final option you can actually ground it to a clean metal surface. Let us now where you are going for power and I can get wire colors for you.
