Default Rear Speaker Question

The rear speakers are 5.25 inch speakers, are you about to put in 6.5 inch speakers back there with out a bunch of problems with fitment?

You have a couple of options....
1. If you buy a good set of 6.5" speakers it will come with a ring that you can use to mount the speakers. The hole is a little bigger than a 6.5.
2. Your local radio shop will have an adapter that will fit in the factory mounting holes and you just screw the new speaker into the mounting ring

stereo shops def have the adapater to mount a 6.5" speaker into the rear. i believe crutchfield has them for like $15 or something like that. if u need extra clearance due to the depth of the speaker, go with mdf-which is usually at least .5" thick, and more likely .75" thick. the speaker adapter that stereo shops have do work, and are probably cheaper, but won't give u any extra mounting depth. if the depth isn't a concern, then just go get them from the stereo shop. the place by me sold me a set they had lying around for like $10

found the ones from crutchfield. here's the link:

they're $12.99

3/4" MDF (full sheet is 19.99) and you can make a butt load of them. Of course you only need 4. I made some for mine and they work out really well. No fitment issues whatsoever.

on the rears i just used a Metra speaker ring adaptor. Unfortunately i only had one set available and i dont think that the tC is a very good vehicle to go get a sheet of mdf so for the front I used the factory speaker. I cut the factory speaker surrond and broke off all the plastic points attached to the basket and removed what was left inside the housing and screwed the speaker into that. 3/4 inch mdf wouldn't have given me the clearance i needed for the speakers anyway. this worked out real well, I wouldn't suggest this method to anyone that may want to reinstall the factory speakers.

Those suck.... well, they work... but the MDF's rigidity will really allow the midrange/midbass to ring out a lot more then the plastic mounting rings will.... the more solid the mount, the more sound that will come to your ears instead of transferring into vibration in the mount/panels....

i agree with "PghtC"...just buy a sheet from local hardware store and with the right tools you should be good to go.

here's where i got my templates ---> https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...light=template

you might want to line it up first then cut the holes when you size it up. Cause the holes were a little off on the rear.

yeah the holes for on those templates were too large for my Polk 6.5" speakers. I used the foam ring that sits between the speaker and the car (provided by polk) to trace the speaker cutout and then cut that size. I had the sheet cut into 4 pieces at Home Depot and just used it to make a bunch of little speaker brackets. I made two sets. The rest is waiting for another project down the road.
