I need an alarm for security and found a shop on local craiglist that charge $150 ( included tax&installation ) for a remote start alarm. The brand is SCYTEC 4000RS-2WY . Life-time warranty. What do u think?? My car is 5-speed manual.

I honestly wouldn't even bother with remote start with a 5spd. You're going to have to do a clutch bypass and basically never ever leave your car in gear if you want to use it.

I can't speak from experience... but my guess is it is not going to start... the question is whether or not it damages your transmission or anything else in trying to start it while in gear.

 

my friend had one on his tc...never left it in gear, but he did on his neon and said it took off in reverse

 

get a remote start/security that is made for a manual transmission. Personally I have the viper 5902. You dont have to go that extravagant, but something like the viper 5701 would be just fine.

 

your car supposively jumps and takes off if left in gear, i just bought the viper 5901 and i love it, along with the remote start its super convienient but then again i never leave my car in gear and my buddy put in a switch so i can always turn it on or off incase other drivers drive it and leave it in gear or what not

 

i would do it and make sure you post how you like it. i have been looking at different alarms w/ remote start and still not sure what one i want. the car will jump if you remote start it in gear, but why would you ever leave it in gear?

 

My alarm has the ability to remote start on my 5 spd (Python 990) but I don't use it. I just use the brain for my turbo timer I don't trust myself or others not to accidentally hit buttons and ram my car into a wall.

I installed my viper 5901 remote start and I have a manual trans. What I did was installed a push button momentary switch on the shifter. The switch is directly underneath the shifter, so when the car is neutral the switch is closed circuit. When left in gear the circuit is open and the car CAN NOT remote start and I get a error on my remote! I have the switch in series with the e-brake. The e-brake has to be set before remote starting and the switch either closes or opens that circuit. So far this has worked great for me! Just have to remember to leave it in neutral or it wont remote start.

The remote start for manual trans option requires you to do a sequence of steps prior to leaving the car every time you park. It was a pain so I just added the momentary switch.

try getting remote start to the factory alarm i think its pretty cheap and cool when you can start it from the factory key.

 

depending on the brand remote starter, some wont even try to start if left in gear. if mines in gear with ebrake down it will not start. it wont even try.

With some remote starts you have to get out of the car with it running and when you lock it, it shuts the car off. Don't get a remote start without a failsafe for a manual. I have known two people who didn't and both cars have gone to the body shop.

Yes that's how the remote start feature on the new vipers when manual trans mode is used. But I bypassed this.
You can use auto trans mode and it will take off in gear, as stated.
