I posted in the classifieds that i wanted one and someone had one for me. I got it for $65 shipped without the door.

It is funny because I have had a few costomers peer into my car at work and they replied " I didnt know the tc came with factory nav". LOL So I guess it passes the factory look test, lol

Could you post the specs on your car pc? Well, the actual components I mean such as the case, motherboard, etc.

Sure, I have the "Ampie" case or it is also called the Voom PC case.
Via Epia MII1200 Motherboard (1.2 ghz)
512mb PC2100 ram
M1-ATX Power supply (With built in startup/shutdown controller)
Toshiba 40 gig 2.5" HD
Panasonic slot load DVD/CD player/burner (made for laptops)
External USB/FW powerd case for the DVD/CD drive
4 port USB hub
Xenarc 700ts 7" screen
Wireless keyboard with built in mouse joystick and buttons

Thats about it for hardware. Head to www.logicsupply.com to see all those parts. They have pretty good prices, the MB was cheaper there than EBAY.

its not that bad really.

You can also do what the other guy here did and put his monitor in the factory spot. he can still use his door too.

Well thats a good question. I am running a standard 2.5" notebook HD temporarily right now. I am still looking at some more options. Hitachi makes an extreame low temp HD that I want to get but for a 30 gig its $300. So im still looking at possibilities. The easiest is a USB HD and just have it readily accesible to remove and bring in the house. But thats just a hassle but the best current solution. Also i could go with and IDE flash drive but the biggest ive seen is 2 gig. I would want about 4gig min to run windows and all the other programs. Blah, lol

Man - that looks great - I don't know anything about fabrication (and don't have room in the apartment to make a mess). I've got lots of PC experience but I'm not ready to take the plunge o something like that - a little out of my depth. But it looks great -I'd love to have it. Question - I understand the auto startup and shutdown power supply and I assume when you turn the engine on the computer starts up, but how long does it take to boot all the way up?

Thanks Gary.

I was the other way around, i know fabrication but not computers.haha

but, i have a remote start. so by the time i get into my car its typically up but its less than a min from boot to front end. Some people get all nuts and have 20-30 sec boot times but i dont care really. Its only a 1.2ghz running XP media edition, lol

I did clean some stuff up but im no software whiz so i normally leave that stuff alone.

Just wondering what the hardware cost was once finished (computer, xm, aux to hook to hu) everything except fab and hu. Could this be hooked to any hu? Also, does it sound as good as a normal hu?

I'm looking at doing this instead of keeping my kenwood DVD and getting the nav. I want to see how it compares in price. I had a computer in my old buick, it was real ghetto but after all the cables and computer I spent about $300 on it cuz I had alot of the parts already. The sound card was $150 and sounded great but that was in a full size computer that I mounted in the trunk. I was able to play my mp3's and movies and used a sony PS portable screen.

BTW, thet fab job looks great!
