Alright. So heres the deal. I have an 05 Scion TC. I bought it a year or so ago from an auto auction, for really cheap. Considering that, i got only 1 KEY, being the Valet Key. The grey one. Their is no code for the master key nor anything else.
My question is : Is there a way to install the FACTORY key-less entry system by buying one online? I've seen them run around for around 100 bucks... Could I get it installed and everything from a locksmith, since all scions come w/ the things needed to have a key less entry?
I REALLY don't want to go to the dealer and pay 300 bucks for a stupid remote.
All help is appreciated.
Thanks!

any way that you go about it, your key is going to need to be programmed to the immobilzer so it can even start the car, which the dealerships do for 100+ a pop.
the car has the keyless entry, its just going to need to be programmed as well.
unfortunately, keys are pricey themselves, and programming is an even bigger rip off.

programming the keyless remote part is the easy part and you can do it yourself.
the immobilizer chip, if you intend on getting an actual working master key that you use to start the car with?? yea.. programming that is a different story... i don't know of any locksmiths that can reprogram something..
i've only seen them do a whole replacement... which costs much more.. and will leave your purchased $100 key completely useless... minus the remote part that you can take out... and i wouldn't spend $100 for just a remote.

I would just buy an aftermarket key, but all the remotes suck, unless you want to spend 400 bucks.
Could i just get the whole setup redone from scratch for around 200 bucks since i wouldn't be reprogramming it?
im pretty sure dealerships or maybe very select shops have the ability to program to the immobilzer, so either way you might have to go to the dealer
you could get an aftermarket alarm for the keyless entry, but that wouldnt solve your one key problem

Anyways, Thanks for your help. Cleared up many things in my mind...
yeah, it sucks that the cars themselves are decently priced, but the keys are so damn expensive.
lost one a couple months after i got my car
Make friends with someone at the dealer who can hook you up

your only option really to keep it OEM is to ether
A) buy a OEM uncut key off ebay and take it to them and have them cut and program it
B) buy the keys and have them cut and program them
C)get a aftermarket key less entry and have it installed
those are going to be your only options and they are all expensive so if all you want it is the key less entry then i would just pony up and go to the dealer because no one else besides them is going to be able to program it
