Default In Search of a Comprehensive Avic Z1 Install

I have been searching for a few days now and cannot seem to find a full and detailed installation. I am new at the electrical aspect and wish to do the install for interests sake. I also hope to install the bluetooth, ipod, steering wheel controls conversion, and rear view camera. Any help would be appreciated.

Default AVIC Z1 / BLUETOOTH / IPOD / PAC SWI-PS Install Instructions

I don't think there's a consolidated thread or how to, but there are several pieces of it laying around the internet.

I'll break it down into steps for you. Steps can be taken out of order, but some obviously need to come first.

MATERIALS:
*Toyota Harness 87+

*Dash kit to fill up the side gaps:

*Tools:
-Electrical Wiring Kit:
>Wire cutter/crimper
>quick splice/wire terminals
-10mm Socket Wrench Thingy
-Philips Head Screwdriver
-Zipties = wirecontrol

Instructions:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

REMOVE CENTER CONSOLE
---------------------
#1 - Take apart the center console and remove the stock HU.
Please Reference the following thread:
https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=27719

WIRING HARNESS
---------------------
#2 - Prepare Wiring Harness: Take the Toyota Harness Adpater and match the color of the wires to the Pioneer Harness. Solder or use connectors. Reference the manual for the scion if you are not sure about the colors. The individual wires are normally labeled.

If you're lazy you might be able to use the scosche prewired harness. But I do NOT know for a fact if this harness works or not.

RS2.0 / RS3.0 TC's w/ STOCK SUBWOOFER: I was told to hook up the amp+ wire that is BLUE to the BLUE wire on the Z1 harness. Hook up the BLUE wire to the Auto Antenna wire.

Harness Adapter Blue wire (wrapped light blue)

To Z1 Auto Antenna Blue wire

VSS
---------------------
#3 - You can plug in your wiring harness at this point or later if you choose.
To connect the PINK VSS wire reference the following link:
http://www.avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5732

**(Note these are instructions for a 2007 I do not know if the VSS differs by the years. Please refer to the electrical wiring diagram for your year and tap into any wire labeled SPD.)

I Hooked the PINK vss wire to the YELLOW wire on the extra harness. Same plug that the PAC will access the green, orange, and pink wires.

PARKING BRAKE - BYPASS
---------------------
#4 - Ground your Parking Brake wire LIGHT GREEN. I put a ring terminal at the end and screwed it to a Grounding Point.
There is another Wire you need to attach to Ground. I just spliced that wire in to the parking brake wire.
Refer to the bottom of:
http://www.sminntech.com/z1flash.html
And:
https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...ht=avic+bypass

**GROUNDING POINT- The one I used is located to the left of the center console and near the steering wheel gauges.

Grounding Point

IPOD
---------------------
#5 - I placed my ipod unit at the bottom of the center console on top of that... HD looking thing. I placed it on top w/ the double sided mounting tape the unit came with. The unit will require a hookup to POWER as well as GROUND. I put a ring terminal on the end of the Ground wire along with the PAC SWI-PS ground wire and a third wire noted in the PAC install that needs to be grounded. I crimped them all into the same terminal ring to save space under the screw and attached it to the same grounding point as the Parking Brake wire.

The iPOD wire i ran under the cupholders and into the arm rest through one of the Holes I found where I just popped the cover off next to the AUX (2007). You will need to pry out your cupholders, you do NOT need to remove the whole center armrest unit. Just pry out the cupholder part.

BLUETOOTH
---------------------
#6 - I put my bluetooth unit on top of my z1 unit, it fits perfectly in between the space under that vent and on top of the unit. No wires to power the unit, it plugs directly into the back.

PAC
---------------------
#7 - The steering wheel control adapter PAC SWI-PS will plug directly into the steering wheel control adapter line that is depicted in the Z1 installation manual. It is very obvious and on one of the optional harnesses that comes with the Z1. You will need to connect the WHITE wire from the PAC as well as the RED for power and BLACK for ground. For the power you can tap into the Radio harness, however I chose to tap into the Cigarette lighter at the bottom of the console. - BLACK is Power and BLACK AND WHITE is Ground. The Ground I put to the same spot as the grounding point for the iPod Adapter (I crimped them both in to the same terminal ring..

The WHITE wire from the PAC will go to the wires located on the harness from the stock Toyota HU that does NOT fit either of the Toyota 87+ Harness. Three plugs come from the stock HU and only TWO fit into the wiring harness. The THIRD one that is unoccupied will contain the wires you need for the PAC.

I believe the wire colors are Green, Orange, and Pink.
The programming instructions for the PAC unit and more details are contained in the link below.
Refer to PAC install instructions for the TC:
http://www.pac-audio.com/swixprogram...ehicles&ID=397

**I Placed the PAC unit UNDERNEATH the Z1 since it will be accessible for programming/reprogramming.

ORANGE, PINK, and GREEN wire in the back will be used by the PAC. This is the extra plug that is left over once you have plugged in the wiring harness adapter.

GPS
---------------------
#8 - I pulled out part of my headliner on the passenger side, it's quite easy, and shoved it up near the rear sunroof area. I have not had any issues with signals with this placement. Some people have placed it in the sunroof track itself. You will need to reach under the rubber siding and just pull a little bit to flip out some of the headliner material. I routed the wire through the rubber siding from the headliner down under the passenger side dash and to the center console. Ziptie some of the wires underneath the passenger side dash to keep it out of sight and from falling down.

INSTALL HU
---------------------
#9 - Screw on the modified mounting brackets with side fillers on top of them to the AVIC Z1 (I did not modify my brackets and have issues with the cover getting "stuck" when trying to open it. I can close it by gently slamming it).
Please note that the filler brackets will go on the OUTSIDE of the stock metal bracket. I believe you will have to remove a part of the plastic filler brackets for them to fit appropriately.
The brackets are marked L and R.

#10 - Plug in your Wiring Harness, GPS, Radio Antenna, IPOD, BLUETOOTH, PAC, and if you have aftermarket speakers/amp. Plug it all in!

#11 - Reinstall the Headunit w/ the brackets into the center console. Make sure the PAC unit is accessible from Underneath the Z1 so you can program it. Or program it before, but you will need to turn the ignition to ACC to program the unit and you can't turn off the car unless you're in park! (I had a duh moment when I couldn't remove the key and turn off the car power. shifter needs to be moved in order to remove the first console piece.)

GOOD LUCK!
yada yada, pictures later, feel free to enhance. I am not a rocket scientist so this method is not perfect. Use your own discretion. Let me know if I missed anything ;)

Yeah I had to spend a week researching and reading up before I felt ready to tackle the install ;P

Let me know if you have any questions.

I need to get back there to fix my blue wire for the sub, so I'll try to take some pics to make it easier.
