seat broke w/ pic!
the bottom portion simply sits on top of the raised floor. the seat back however, is mounted to the floor at multiple locations.
it sounds like either the seat isn't mounted correctly, or the seat back got pushed back. are you sure something is broken?

how would the seat slide forward and backward if it just sat on the floor?

My 2000 Protege was rear ended (twice), and the seat broke (twice). The seat back on one side snapped, so I had the gangsta lean. Both times the impact was enough to smash the whole trunk in, including the floor.
Normal wear and tear will not break a seat. They are designed to survive minor accidents, and hold large people without breaking.
