Default Shallow Mount Subwoofers...

Hey SL Audiophiles,
I'm looking into some shallow mount subs...

What are the pros and cons of using them? Which is the most reliable? I've seen the eD brand subs, but never heard them up close...

I've heard the Pioneer shallow mount subs in a Smart Car (DUB Show '07)....and they sounded AWESOME in the hatch...but they were in a fiberglass enclosure with TONS of sound deadening (im sure)....

Please post pics, comments, EXPERIENCE...

Threadjacking =

thanks

DO NOT buy the ED SQ10. It is a terrible sub. I have one and it blew after only having it for 2 months. ED refused to admit a defect and attributed it to the fact it was hitting the top piece of the mat in the trunk.

Funny they say that considering it was in an ED custom box that is SUPPOSED to fit in that little trunk space. They made me pay $75 to have it fixed.

Terrible customer service.

Is there a suggested retail for these? I'm trying to keep my budget under $1500 for 2 subs and a nice amp to run them....

^I'm pretty sure there is....they only need a little more than 1/2 a cubic foot of space to perform properly...

I'm trying to get 2...but NO ONE has them yet...any AMP recommendations?

Are any tC owners already running shallow mount subs?

the jl's aren't available yet, as far as I know. I have always used JL subs, and haven't had any complaints yet.

if you want decent sq and a mix of spl id look at the ID Q

how much room do you have or want to give up??

thats the main thing

i think the kicker shallow sub takes as much room as some regular sub

DO NOT go with the eD SQ10 - I ordered one with their stealth trunk enclosure and the sub was DOA, sent it back in oh early Feb. still haven't heard a single word from them. I call them and ask them about it, they say "We're sorry man, we're really behind on RMA's, we should have something for you soon." Horrible customer service..

OH and the website fails to mention that the enclosure only fits THEIR shallow mount subs.

I was able to fit a Kicker CVT 10" in there with a 1/2" spacer, but I can't close the mat now.

I like the Kicker, I only have 300W going to it and it'll pound.

I got the exact same poor customer service and was shrugged off just like you. Seems once they get your money they could care less about you.

I'm willing to lose my spare tire at this point, lol...I have 20s so a 17in. spare is kinda point less...

I want to hide the amps, so basically I can use the WHOLE trunk space...I don't want Fiberglass yet...it's too heavy for TRD springs....I'll go with fiberglass when I have coilovers...lol...

I'm looking to use 2 of these with a 2-channel amp to push them...I've already got Coaxials and components up front, so I need some bass to take the edge off a bit...

Do their amps come with an external remote for bass gains?

I'm wondering b/c of location for the remote....

If not....who makes a reliable set?

I have heard a few rumors that JL is packing up and moving their florida operation to Taiwan.... and from experience, other companies that have done that, their stuff usually goes to crap after the move. I'm buying up JL now, just in case.
