I got my new gauge face and leds done but apparently I have a short circuit somewhere. Probably from my Avic-D3. Probably taking it to the dealer tomorrow which i'm sure they'll charge me a buttload to fix. Any suggestions?

 

who installed the avic?

Try to locate the problem first. Then change the fuse and see if it continues to blow.

 

my friend and i. i'm not the most knowledgeable person with this stuff so he was pretty much leading the way. any ideas what could be shorting it?

 

What is happening to make you think you have a short? Blown fuse?

Which fuse? If you think it has to do with the stereo, my first recommendation is to unplug it, then see if the short continues.

 

I forget which fuse it is but it controls the lights of the waterfall and dash lights. I think that's what I'll do tomorrow after work. I'll unplug the radio and test it out. If it is the radio what could cause the fuse to blow? Bad crimping?

just check all of the wiring, if any of the wiring is touching metal pieces then that can mess it up, if its hooked up to the wrong wire that could mess it up. id say there was no need to take it to the dealer, just fix the wiring on the radio.

me and my friend installed a amp kit and amp in his 06 mustang gt and every time we went to turn on the car, it wouldn't do anything, turn the key..seemed like nothing happened..turns out we kept blowing ignition fuses, and it was all because one wire had been pinched up against the frame.

 

I am guessing you have a bad connection that is grounding to something on the car, or you have tied in the dimmer control wire for the unit to the wrong wire in the harness. Seems that I have heard of a few others that had issues with the dimmer control wiring on that unit being connected improperly.

 

Thanks everyone for the info. My friend and I just checked all the wiring and fixed it all up. Two fuses ended up being blown. Replaced them and now everything is working perfectly
