Default Single-DIN install problems

Hey all I have a Pioneer DEH-P3900MP single-din deck and a scosche scion dash kit. I installed it yesterday, but there was a problem: the rear end of the deck just sorta drops down until it's resting on the storage pocket of the dash kit. The kit doesn't use any screws to support the headunit to the plastic brackets. If I understand the instructions correctly i'm just supposed to slide the new HU (with DIN sleeve/cage attached) into the mount and bend the metal tabs out. If nothing else, I'll cut some foam rubber supports and epoxy them to the bracket to hold the headunit up, but maybe this isn't necessary. Any suggestions from people who have this kit?

Thanks

Yeah I know.. if I had the money (and didn't already have a Garmin Nuvi 350) I would definitely buy a double-din. The D3 is really nice but just out of my budget.

I really don't like how it's sitting, it looks like a lot of stress is being put on the deck's trim ring. I'll try calling Scosche and if they can't help I'll just fab up some raisers with the foam rubber.

You could always run one philips screw through the center of the pocket to attach both the cd player and pocket together with a backstrap.

I had a single-DIN eclipse CD5000 HU and never had a problem with it moving around. Does the Sosche kit replace the two factory mounting brackets? I mounted my eclipse onto the factory brackets (drilled further back) with two bolts on each side. I think you should be using the sosche pocket that mounts under the radio, which is pretty standard for Toyotas & Scions.

mine came with a screw that has a piece of rubber on the end that srews into the top of that pocket under the radio, which holds mine up. i didnt put it in at first and my radio droped. i temp. pushed my fuse box from my radio cables between the radio and pocket held up for a while.

I don't think I have that part, jroc. In any case, I called Scosche and they suggested that I wasn't bending the clips right (yeah... sure). So I pulled open my dash, layered 3 pieces of 5mm Blucor foam insulation together and wrapped them up in Gorilla Tape like a Christmas gift. Then I made another of the same one and set the two between the pocket and the radio. The G-tape gives great friction and there's no way it's moving now... It's not beautiful but it's functional and hidden... and it's not ugly either. =)

Just read over your original post and noticed you mentioned the sleeve... I don't think you're supposed to use the radio mounting sleeve in a Toyota/Scion. Take the sleeve out and bolt the factory HU cage directly into the radio. I really can't picture the foam you're talking about but I can't imagine it being good for the heat dissapation of the HU.
