I believe this site should contain the answers to your questions.

yes, you need the reciever and fit kit, but that's probably the cheapest you'll get it. and yes, Stern FTW, i listened to XM and Sirius stations before, i like sirius better to be honest.

try it, but i'd bet you'd still need a wiring kit to connect it to the head.

i think ill go to bestbuy and check it out even if the kit is 80 bucks it will still only be like 200 at the most compared to the one from sparks.

I just want to interject here before you spend money on a part that will not work.
I've read several posts here that the Sirius connect tuner is not compatable with our stock HU's period. According to Pioneer directly, it's also posted on here somewhere, scion owners will need to buy the factory tuner kit to enable sirius radio with the stock radio. Your other option would be change to an aftermarket HU SAT combo or you may be able to get a plug n play SAT unit and either hardwire the connection or use an FM modulator.
Alpine and Kenwood both have HU's with the tuner built in and antenna included. You simply hook up the HU, install your antenna and subscribe and enjoy.
The alpine is CDA-9820XM but is XM only.
The Kenwood is Ez700SR.

I hope this has helped in some small way. Good luck and happy birthday

I would just buy a unit and transmit until you get an aftermarket headunit that you can directly plug the line out to your headunit's AUX input. That will give you the best sound.

i went to bestbuy bought a unit put it in my window. Also it looks a lot better cause the song and artist are displayed unlike on the tc HU you have to scroll down. So i spent 80 on the starmate and 150 for 1 yr service so 230 compared to 400 and all that wiring. I even installed in the snow yesterday. the sound quality is awesome.

Are you transmitting or directly wired. The transmitter sounds nice, but you will notice a huge difference with a direct wired unit. I'd wait until you get a new headunit, because I don't know if the stock headunit can even have a aux input like that.....is the stock headunit CD changer ready?

Luckily for me, I get all XM or Sirius units for $50!
I decided to get a portable unit and use the aux jack and then be able to put it in my office or house...

As for the '06 HU - if you got the new unit - the one with the iPod option, both XM and Sirius will work fine with the kits.

The starmate is awesome. the sound quality was perfect even in the blizzard yeterday. def. worth every penny. But still getting used to the complexity of theunit a lot of different options. You got to read the owners manual before messin around with it. lol.

fm modulator. The sound is clear and crisp and is like cd quality. the bass actually hits unlike on the fm radio. howard stern is the best feature.
