Default speakers sounding distorted?

i have infinity components attached to an alpine amp. it seems that when I drive the woofer sounds distorted. the tweeters are fine though. ive been messing with the crossovers on the amp and the settings on the head unit and i haven't been able to figure it out. can someone point me in the right direction?
