Default SQ10 installation plus amp recommendation

Ok, so I'm thinking about installing an SQ10 next to the spare with the enclosure from Elemental Design, on a 2007 tC. I already have a D3. Here's a couple of questions:

1. Is it going to make some noise? Am I going to feel the difference? I don't care if people five blocks down the street can't hear me, I just want a little bit of punch.

2. Will the entire car rattle? One of the reasons I'm doing this is the fact that the door panels rattle even after using dynamat. I wanna lower the bass on the speakers and get it from the sub. I don't wanna spend more money on dynamat. How bad will it get?

3. What sub should I get? I don't wanna go crazy, just the bare minimum.

4. The 5 star question!!! How do I get the power wire from the battery inside the car. I tried to find a way but I just don't see it. Some guys on the forum have drilled holes...is it a must? Does anyone have a picture?

Thanks guys!

1. It will sound nice im sure, never heard it in person but i have the one above it which is the 11kv.2 from eD and it sounds very clean. It shouldnt wake the neighbors.

2. It shouldnt have that much power to rattle the whole car, depending on the amp and how much the sub wants to handle. I wouldnt count on it.

3. I like the SQ10 because it can be hidden, but i went with the 11kv.2 and love it. Not too much and little when i want.

4. There's a rubber boot with some wires running through. You can run it through the inside out which is easier. Under the steering wheel look up and you should see it. Check out this thread and it should help you with the install.....

Id recommend a NINe.4 from eD just incase you want to add a set of components up front later on down the road.

1. yeah, it will sound good. it'll add some good extra bass into the music. it's not designed for "punch you in the back of the head" bass.

2. it shouldn't. the bass won't get that deep to do so. shoot a pm to BME on this board and ask him about the box I built for him and if he has any rattles. He has no dynamat and I don't believe he has any issues. My car is covered in it, so I can't speak from experience with a bone stock car.

3. i've made custom boxes fitting two SQ10s in on the right side and it sounded good. you can go from mild to pretty nice and heavy. i'm going to experiment with two 10" pioneer slimline subs next. you can't go wrong with either.

4. go through the gromet (i think that's what it's called) already in the firewall. If you look at the back of the engine compartment on the battery side, you will see a lead of wires with a rubber type wrapping around them. These all lead into the dash in the car. Run your power wire through there, then down around and under the dead pedal, then under the door sill area and back to wherever you are going to put the amp (mine is located on a custom built amp rack on the spare tire).

Dan, I have the D3, the stealthbox you have, and a 07.

my amp setup(s) are JBL. I have the BP600.1 class D Monoblock amp for my sub. It freaking pounds (I dont have a sq10 sub however).

1) It is going to make some noise, and you will feel a difference. People will NOT hear it 5 blocks away. I would recommend a amp that is NOT TOO STRONG - say under 300w.-350w max ---, that sq10 cant take much wattage. I smoked the sq10 in about 10 days (with propper break-in) and I was just asking it for more than it could provide. It is lacking in that low-end bass, but will still provide a great kick.

2. No. It wont rattle anything but MAYBE the mat in the back, you may want to use some foam where the sub and carpet meet, to raise it about 1/2" higher. You shouldnt need anymore dynamat.

3. The SQ10 sounds perfect for what your looking for.

4. DONT DRILL HOLES! There is no need! I ran 4 guage through one of the higher top grommets on the drivers side, it was a MF'r to get the the second bigger gauge wire through (I have 2 amps) but some KY did the trick..

5. DAN, check out one of the posts by MANDOS . he did a great idea, which many (including myself) used after displaying his talent. Which BTW : I havent seen mandos around at all? But, what he did, and what I also did - Was place my amp setups INSIDE the rear panels (you know, where your passengers in the back sit) and everything is hidden. I managed to stuff 2 JBL Amps (see my profile) one in each side, plus a farad cap for the sub amp.

ok, that sounds great, thanks guys, one more question. what amp should I get with the SQ10, nothing to powerful, not too expensive, just enough to make the SQ10 "talk" to me. . I'd rather spend more money on performance. There are so many choices out there when it comes to amps... which one should I make it? again, thanks guys

anything in a company you like that puts out a 300-350w max. Id get a class D amp, specific to subwoofers, and id prolly get it off ebay. an 8 guage wire kit is perfect for that setup as well.

I just bought an brand new alpine amp thats 300w off ebay for $36 shipped.. lol, it showed up on my doorstep today (its for subs in my other car). but there are PLENTY of deals out there on ebay on brand new amps, and since your not looking for a beast of a amp, you will get away with something pretty good for under $150

Brands Id look at :
JBL obviously (its whats outfitted in my car)
Orion (if you get an oldschool used amp, I loved all my orions)
Alpine
Hi-Fonics
XTANT
Kicker
JL audio
Crunch

Honestly, a pioneer, sony, or jensen amp would pound that sq10 just as well. There is NOTHING wrong with having a pioneer premier amp, or a sony xplod. seriously. They are just fine as well.

One company I have ALWAYS stayed away from myself is AUDIOBAHN however.. dont ask me why, I just think the product was kinda junk. Oh well, personal opinion - it was also the rides they were featured in so that had a lot to do with it.

What were you looking to spend?

again, I SERIOUSLY wouldnt go over a 350w amp, operating at a 70-80% effeciency level on a sq10.

I am doing the SQ10 box loaded as well.........I am gonna use the NINe.5 to run it and front and back 6000s comps........from what I have read so far it should sound really good.........not gonna win contests, but should be more than loud unough with good clean sound...........and in the future I can upgrade the system and bridge it for more power and add another amp to the setup.

gonna build a floor to fitthe amp into and plexi over it with LEDs........that way it is funcional in the back as I gotta have somewhere to put groceries.........plus if I put a 1/2" wood floor back there I can sit inthe back of the hatch without worries......

Amps also will fit very well inthe sides out of site..........lots of room under there.........lots of room.

I have one final question. given the fact that i want ONE SQ10 and one amp, which configuration would work better? I mean the SQ10 comes in 2 versions: Single 2 or Single 4 Voice Coils. What type of amp should I get and what configuration should I use?

Get the 2 or 4 to match the amp you get.

Mine is running off an Alpine M450 which is mounted upside down to a piece of wood that sits across the top of my spare (so the amp is in the spare). For this amp you'd get the 2ohm. although I am running the 4ohm since I got the sub when I had a different amp.

But say i wanted to get the ED stealth box. do i buy it and just slap it on and plugs right up with no problems or do i still ave to get a new HU and AMP? if thats the case i will wait till i get everytthing together and install all at once.

Well did you get the upgraded headunit, if so you don't have to since it has the pre-outs but an aftermarket one would be better. You would want to get an amp for the subs though, That little sub probably has barely any power running to it.
