Square subwoofer
Not sure if any other brand makes them but as for the Kicker Solobarics, they push a lot of power but are not as clean sounding as some subs. Round is always better for sound performance. I have also noticed that their range isn't that great either. Semi low bass and mid-range they push very well but really low and some what high hitting bass it just doesn't cut it. Also i have read in some magazines that they tend to make a lot of "noise" thats not music related hence it not being a clean sounding sub. So basically they are only good for competition type setups. If you want a good all around sub, spend your money else where. hope this clears some things up for you.
From personal experience, I don't like the sound the Kicker SoloBarics (L5/L7) sound at all.... they can get really loud in an SPL enclosure, but for daily listening - I'd take something with better fidelity...
Hifonics makes a square sub just to let you know.

Im sure you can make them sound decent depending on the enclosure you use. I have heard them in a couple of different installs and I wasn't very impressed with either one (SQ wise).
if you check wikipedia.org there are a bunch of pages talking about the pros and cons of circle subs vs square subs. also i think the kicker website mentions something about it as well. basically the idea behind the square subs was to maximize surface area, therefore maximizing air compression, but there is a loss of quality. i think thats about how it goes, you should do a bit of research if you are unsure.
