stock stereo is giving me problems since adding amp and sub
the head unit will cut off and no sound will come from the speakers. i contacted pioneer and the customer svc guy says that i may have damaged the head unit as a result of using the high to low converter to obtain an RCA out connection.
will buying the wiring harness used to connect the OEM side panel powered sub for the tC work with my aftermarket amp and sub?
have i ruined my head unit already?
will my warranty cover the damage? or am i screwed?

does the unit not power on at all?
that really doesnt make any sense.
you just tap into the LR +/- and RR +/- speaker wires for a high low converter i dont see it damaging anything... ive done tons of scions with high low converters no problems...
tell me more about what its doing

how did you use the level converter for your rca's. If you hooked it up correctly, and it is pretty hard to hook it up wrong, then there is no way to damage your stock HU. Every single shop that adds any kind of amp to a factory HU will use them. Also what kind of amp is it that you are hooking up, 4ch for mids and highs or a sub amp??
i had it done at a stereo shop near my house, the guy told me he used a high to low converter to get the bass signal from one of the speaker wires, then wired the amp to the high to low converter via the RCA jacks.
im really not sure what brand he used, but it looks like im gonna have to bring it back to him and have him re-do it. i was just curious if going to scion and purchasing the wiring harness that is used for the OEM sub that fits into the wall of the trunk would work better with using a sub...or if maybe the high to low that he used is a piece of junk, and is the problem...i have seen this topic come up in a post or two previously but since the details werent exactly the same as mine, i thought i should repost with my own specific details.
im using a 1000 watt sony xplod amp to a 1X12 speaker box with an Infinity subwoofer. im really not sure of the channels, capacities, etc...but it worked just fine in my last car. the only difference was that my old stereo had RCA preamp outs and didnt need the high to low converter.
im thinking that switching out the high to low will fix it, or using the wiring harness for the 100 watt scion sub w/ driver that fits into the trunk side panel.
any thoughts would be GREATLY appreciated...

Beyond that, start to educate yourself about car audio. Such knowledge isn't just valuable to people who want to do it themselves, but also to people like yourself, as it'll keep you from getting ripped-off by bad shops...if that's what happened here.
