Default stock stereo stopped working..wtf?

OK i was driving home on sunday night and i was listening to my ipod connected through the auxiliary port and i was tired so i just turned the power off on my stereo and the whole thing just went black and now it wont turn back on and that lights will not even light up.

I had a sub and amp for about a year but the amp went out so it has been out of my car for a few weeks...idk if that has anything to do with it

has this happened to anyone else?

Did you check the fuses yet? I don't remember where they are at exactly but look in the manual.
2 fuse box locations; in the engine bay and under the faux panel to the left of the steering wheel.
(Stick your head where the gas pedal is and look up. You'll see it on the right)

If you check the fuse (lower left side below the steering wheel), it is good, then the radio definitely died. If it's under warranty, have the dealer give you another. This is exactly why I like Alpine over Pioneer. Pioneer never seems to be of that great quality. Too bad, because they have some nice features.

ok im F*cking ____ed. i just got back from the dealer and they charged me $95 for nothing.

the guy was like well you have some wire in the back that caused the short (i had a sub and amp) and when the mechanic was checking the wires all of sudden his meter went dead...i was like wtf are you saying then he showed me some fuse cover that was melted by the intake i was like ok...what are you talking about?

i hate dealers. i could have just put that $95 towards a new HU or towards something else not a mechanic pulling my HU doing touching it with a volt meter and putting it back. and they dont tell me til after everything is done that its going to cost me and i have the $2000 premium warranty which apparently doesn't do S H I T.

can someone explain to me how wires laying in my trunk could make my HU not work?

Yeah if a power wire for the amp touched the chassis or another wire it could blow the deck......as it would create a circuit and make it go boom.....

Becareful! This happened to me the 2nd day I got my car. I took it back to the dealer and they told me a cable came off in the back. It wasnt a fuse or anything. Since it was my 2nd with the car they didnt charge me anything. Careful they didnt give you the run around and charged you for plugging something back in.
