Default Stock subwoofer upgrade

The stock sub that comes with the 08 tc sucks! At first I was just excited that the car came with a sub from the factory so I didn't think it was all that bad, but after getting adjusted to the way it sounds it sure does have alot of distortion and is not that powerful . Would it be worth it to swap out the speaker for a new one? Or does the whole design suck? I like the idea of having it hidden under the cargo mat though.
Has anyone tried anything like this?

Awesome! I assume that you need to buy a seperate amp for that other than the one that comes with the factory sub right? Will that directly replace the factory sub or is that for previous models other than the 08?

yep and you'll take out the factory sub and put that in, you'll need an amp but call them up and they'll get you hooked up

I think I would buy the empty enclosure and put something else in there, maybe a pioneer. Where would be the best place to hide the amp?

I have it and tuned it to push 250w which is not a lot but to be honest the sub sounds clean........I acn take my D3 to 35 onthe volume and no distortion.........hits well........it is not the biggest by far.........but it keeps my trunk space intack to hold my NINe.5 and a stack of groceries........mine is also tuned to 50hz and my speakers are crossed to take the rest..........

If you wnat more bass yo gotta give up the trunk space or your spare.......

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I will def look into that as soon as money starts flowing again. I've been dumping all my money into my motorcycle being that it's almost summer, priorities I guess.

Where in IL are you from? I just took out my stock sub from my 08 and put in the ED stealth box w/ the SQ10 and I absolutely LOVE it. Sounds 100X better than stock and is 100% hidden cuz I mounted my amp on top of my spare tire (spare is still very easily removable).

kicker has a new 6.5" dedicated shallow mount sub this year its model number is CVT65 ... it has 150rms watts 300 peak and cant hit pretty low at 25 hz its a perfect drop in replacement for the stock 6.5"sub. just take out the old one pop in the new one and then hook up a small amp and call it a day. all for cheaper then what the ED box alone would cost. just for compairison the stock sub is only 15r/30p watts if that, so even a 150r/300p watt sub will make a huge difference not only in how hard it hits but sq will be much better as well

here is a ebay link to give you an idea on price for this sub... i have seen it cheaper else where on the net though. usually $70 shipped though
http://cgi.ebay.com/KICKER-CVT65-6-1...QQcmdZViewItem

the SSMB6 are also another nice option and are a 125rms watt free air speakers .. though they are not labeled as subs they can still get down to 30hz which im sure is much better then stock... also for the same price as one CVT65 you get 2

http://cgi.ebay.com/Kicker-SSMB6-6-1...QQcmdZViewItem

you could also run a ED 7kv.2 which has 200rms watts but it has a mount depth thats to big so you would have to make a adapter plate/spacer for it .

also here is a good read on a stock 6.5" sub box dissection also shows how to mount a ED 7kv.2 onto the box

good info here. So we can't use the stock amp if i just want to replace the sub? i kind of don't want to buy/mount a amp. something like this one

http://cgi.ebay.com/New-6-5-JL-Audio...QQcmdZViewItem

i thought as long as you wire it (red and blk) and mount it, you'll be ok?

It seems like upgrading the subwoofer with the stock bass headunit would be a waste of time. That doesn't have the pre-amp outs for the sub and has no kind of crossover adjustment for the sub... Although if there is a way to wire it up I would certainly look into it, I agree that it is unacceptable sound quality.
