Ive never heard elemental but i have heard alot of great things about them. so i dont really have any input on that sub. As for the 8500 we actually just installed one of these 12's today i have to admit i was quite impressed complete night and day from there lower end stuff. the 4500 and 5500 are built over seeas but the rest are built here in a america. Good luck with your choice im sure youll be happy with either one u choose!
I really like all the MTX subs i've used. They are a decent price and give good output.
The W7 sounds ok to me, but not wht i expected for the money. Id rather do an IDmax over a W7.
Dont know bout th ED sub though

rockford is a very good brand. Id much rather have an RF amp over RF subs.
I dont know what the deal is SL ,everyone loves ED.
ED is a good brand but people act as if ED is the best thing ever, not hatting or nothing. =)

Yeah, my eD sub was fantastic. I am selling it, and not putting it in my next tC (whenever that may be) because I am getting something louder. *cough* 13A.v2
That was my only disappointment. With 600 watts, it bumped, don't get me wrong, but I was expecting louder. Sound quality cannot be beat by any sub within its price range though!
is this a good sub?

and would this amp be enough to power it?

it will work but you will be underpowering it... if you can get a dual 2ohm version of the sub youd be ok, but still running it 50w shy of rms.
im with yanki.. go eD
RF to Kicker to eD all running 400w.. and so very happy i changed.

one of the loudest and hardest hitting systems i have ever had in my life was in my 2001 mustang GT, i Had 2 12" mtx 7000 (back in the day when that was their highest about 10 years ago).. and running them with a 1000 watt kicker amp. these subs where incrediblely loud.. i had screws literally coming out of my car and i would find new ones in the floor board and trunk weekly. I have had l7 15's, had some of the great big pioneer premier 12's, memphis, and some other kickers and nothing came close to these subs... must have been a fluke... but if ed can beat the old quality of mtx then ed all the way!! i'll tell ya in a few months when i get back to my car and get my ed stuff installed.
thats just it. they're loud but they sound like absolute CRAP.
seriously mtx, kicker, and rf really don't sound very good, they hit hard but have no musical ability. imho when i'm in my car i want them to sound good. but thats the difference.

Wow...what a surprise! It's another "if it isn't eD, it's crap" thread.
There have been several sound quality competitors using MTX, Kicker, and RF subs that have won world championship titles. Jeff Smith (MTX), Will Adcock (Rockford), Mark Eldrige (Kicker).
I'd be more concerned with local dealer support. Can your installer and associated shop perform the install you want? Any warranty issues should be handled the same day vs. shipping to/from the manufacturer. Setup should be performed correctly the first time by the installer/shop, and thus your system will be tuned from a professional to perform to it's potential.
A car audio system is essentially 1/3 equipment, 1/3 install and 1/3 tuning. If your system is lacking in any of these areas, you didn't get the most of your hard earned money...
