Default Sub enclosure question

I am in the process of building a custom enclosure out of 3/4 mdf. I plan on making a ring for each 10 inch woofer to sit on so I can elevate them from the surface of the box. But I want to blend it. I have seen it done b4 with what looks like bondo. I am just curious if that is the right material to use or is there something else that is better?

you don't want to use bondo you want to use fiberglass to make it uniform.

Are you sure? It seems a bit rediculus to use fiberglass just in that small of a spot we are talking like only and inch at max of area around the rings. I have seen this done b4 Im just not sure what compound they used. It looked very similar to bondo. I believe I saw it done on unique whips and posibly on another show as well. I am quite perficent at wood working and sanding Im sure I could get it pretty uniform. I just want to know if the bondo will hold up to the speaker vibration or if there is something else I should use.

hmm. I really didnt want to get involved with fiberglass. If I was gonna do that I would have built the whole box out of it. Where I would be using the bondo would be such a small amount and it wouldnt be in a location that would leak. I think I might just try it out. I am quite sure that I could get it pretty good. Plus any minor inconsistancies will be hidden when I carpet the box. Unless someone knows of another material besides fiberglass and bondo I think Im gonna try. If it doesnt work I can always remake that panel of the box.

yeah Duraglass is what I was thinking you might want to try and use. It looks like Bondo in a way so that might be what you saw on the TV show

I have another question as well if anyone can help me with this one. I looked at the suggested cubic feet for the subs im using and built my box within their recomended limit. But what justifies porting a sub. Like is it all prefrence? could I add a port to my setup? My subs cubic feet recomendation was .65 - 1.25, I built my box to .66. Also is there anybody on here who could possibly walk me through how to set this stuff up once im ready to install? Like I wanna tune it right but I am not that knowledgable about that.

if you look at your sub box recommendations the ported boxes always are much larger. just cutting a hole and sticking a port in the box will sound much worse than having it sealed. i would just leave it sealed.

no in fact it would probably make it sound worse because it would be tuned very high.

If you don't know how to wire it up you should just take it to an audio install shop. They will do it faster and most likely a lot better and safer then you would.

If you really want to do it yourself pm me.
