Default subs on and off

i have 2 12" JL audio and 1500 watts 1 channel crunch amp. sometime my subs sounds really low and when im driving suddenly my subs goes super loud and i lowered the bass setup from head unit 5 minutes later i cant hear anything its like almost no bass at all and i set it back to the previous setting, the bass still super low and probably wait till 1 hour or more the subs goes super loud again without changing the set up. anyone know why?? do i need to install a capacitor to fix this problem??

Thanks
sorry bout my english

it's either wire problem or your overheating the amp so it turns off on its own to cool down

check your wires. I used to have that problem, it was a bad ground for me.

Ok. How many voice coils do the subwoofers have? How is the amp getting its signal? Is the equipment new or used?

What headunit are you running? Some headunits (such as the Upgraded Pioneer unit) have a feature that increases the volume as your vehical accellerates. Its supposed to drown out the road noise. Check your headunit to see if you have this feature, and if it is enabled.

The stock (non-upgraded) Pioneer head unit has that feature as well. It adds a little boost to the volume and especially in the lower frequency range (bass) as well. That can affect the volume of the bass from song to song. A bass **** connected to the amp would be an easy fix.

make sure that feature is disabled. i cannot stress that enough. you may not even notice the rest of the system's volume is increasing because the subwoofer's volume is the most noticeable. The volume would increase as the vehical accelerates, and decrease as the vehical slows. If this feature has been disabled, then...

Check your ground. A proper ground ground is a flat spot within 12" of the amp. You've sanded it down clean, to the bare metal, and used metal screws to secure the ring terminal to the bare metal. DO NOT use an existing bolt.

FYI...The number of voice coils does not matter; don't listen to that person.

1. check your ground and make sure it is tight and not loose
2. i hope you are using 4 gauge wiring and not 8 gauge.
3. what settings do you have your stock radio on? when i was using my stock radio it was on xA & feel. but save up and buy an aftermarket radio so you can control the subwoofer output.
4. get rid of that crunch amp because they are cheap, get something that is CEA-2006 compliant because those are tested and give out the actual wattage output unlike other companies that just guess out numbers.

no you don't need a cap.

wherever your ground is (metal part of chassis in trunk area), sand off all the paint at that spot, so you have a metal-to-metal contact. make sure the bolt you are using is TIGHT.

4 gauge and 8 gauge is the wires you are using for power and ground, 4 gauge is the average gauge that you need because it is thinker and sends more power to the amp. as for the bass remote, that has nothing to do with your subs getting louder and then dying, that is your amp that is over heated and needs time to cool down.

sounds like your amp is just going into protection mode and shutting down. after it cools down then it works again. my old kenwood used to do that all the time. whats the impedence on your subs? my guess is its lower than what the amp is rated for.

Trying to trouble shoot over the internet requires as much information about the situation as possible. I'm trying to help someone over 2000 miles away, if you have an explanation of why the number of voice coils doesn't matter please tell me and I will gladly tell you why you are wrong. /ethugging

To the OP their should be a sticker on the back of the subwoofer that has numbers or symbols on it usually telling you what model the speaker is. The sticker is going to be on the magnet (big circular disc thing that ferrous(magnetic) metal will stick to). Also the model of the amp will help as well. Who put the equipment in? Just a shot in the dark but go into the menu on the headunit and turn the ASL off, see if that helps at all.

what the? number of voice coils does not matter? what if his subs are each dual coil @ 4ohms each and he has both coils wired in parallel per sub then has both subs wired in parallel. that would be a 1 ohm load total and i can almost assure you for certain that his crunch amp isn't 1 ohm stable. that could be why its overheating.
