tc with a 3 way set up?
Well I've thought about it 145 times and I really want to do a 3 way set up.
I understand that speakers placement is very important in a 3 way set up.
I was thinking about puttin the 6 1/2"mid-bass in a kick panel where the big plastic part is at your feet.
Making a bracket for the 4" mid to go into the factory door location and then the tweet where is it now or up on the b pillar
Brands..Ive heard the Focal and really liked it. The CDTs I havent heard but i've owned 3 pairs of CDTs so I know the 3 way set up will be good.
Anyone have a 3 way set up in thier car??Im looking to spend about $5-$700 on speakers only.
thanks

I'll be done mine at the end of the week if all goes well. Do you have a manual or automatic? And will you midbass have a neodymium magnet? The reason I ask is that there isn't a lot of room behind those kick panels unless you plan on moving all the wiring back there and/or having the kick panels take up some floor space.
I'm also going to assume you mean a-pillar? b-pillar is where your seatbelt is.
Here's a pic of a guy's 3-way from DIYMA.

and here's a link to the thread.

Car audio is all about compromises. Which drivers play the frequencies you need? Where can you mount these drivers? How large (diameter and depth) are they? What amplifier will you use to drive them?
While 3-way systems have their advantages, I've always been of the mindset where less is more. The two way systems are of course easier to design and install, will require less channels of amplification, etc. Three way systems have more cone surface area, and in some vehicles will yield a better soundstage because you're able to place the smaller, more critical midrange driver where it needs to be - the furthest from the listeners. I can't stress enough how important path lengths are - and keeping them as long as possible, and equidistant.
You'll want the bandwidth of lower than 400hz and higher than 4KHz coming from the furthest distance away from you. Midbass drivers need to be as wide apart as possible, because humans hear those frequencies in a slightly different manner.
Keep the speakers as close to each other, and on the same axis, as practical.
Wide dispersion tweeters with smooth off axis response, work great in kickpanels, while narrow dispersion tweeters work better near the A-pillars. You don't want the sound ping-ponging between the glass and dash. Get a dash-mat! You can test it for yourself by placing some towels on the dash, and listening for the image to tighten and become focused.
You'll want a digital signal processor with time alignment, EQ, and xover with slopes to at least 24dB/oct in order to dial in all the speakers and their different path-lengths. It's much more challenging to get a 3 way front stage to sound "right" because of the added pair of drivers...but I wish you luck!
Cheers!

I seperated the mesh material from the plastic without cutting it and effectively made a grill out of the mesh with a 4" behind it, worked out nicely without cutting up my door panel or building fiberglass pods that would just get scuffed up from wandering feet.
Mounted my crossovers in the door panel, this is not a good idea however. The crossovers I have are very large and take up a decent amount of space and thus the door panel was a nice location for them. If you can, avoid mounting crossovers in the door panel if they are large. Over time shutting the door over and over will break solder joints loose on the circuit board.

I did a similar install in the rear for the 4" and tweet, they are mounted behind the side panels with the panel cut out from the backside to allow sound travel.
My profile has pics of my sub enclouse, waiting for paint.
Using a Gt-42 4 channel for the 2 component sets
Gt- 28 for the 3 G5 10's
