Default tC Remote Start - Interesting Project

Well, I have decided on my next project: remote start for the winter. But I refuse to have an extra fob. I want to use the stock key/fob

I figure the easiest way to do this is buy a cheap, simple remote starter, and set it up to trigger off some system already in place in the vehicle.

It cannot be too complex of a circuit to maybe find the switch that enables "panic" and convert my panic button to remote start. Or even set up some relays for some sequence of "lock" signals to trigger a start. hitting lock four times on fob for example"

I have some wiring diagrams for the12volt.com and I also found the optional "security" system install guide. I have not look through that yet to see how useful it is.

Questions:

1.Has anyone attempted this, or heard of this? Or even have any valuable input? Or useless input is fine too... haha

2.Does our stock key have a "passkey" system or whatever that needs to be bypassed?

Thanks ahead of time for the input!

-Steve

i had heard of this about a year ago... i remember it being on a "youtube" type website and the guy got it to work.... he hit his panic button twice and sure enough... car started right up.... how... i am not so sure... look it up...

and yes our cars have an immobilizer in the key... so you will need a 556uw or similar bypass mod where you put a key inside of it... besides that... good luck... hope everything works out for you... need anything just pm me

There is luxury MotorWorks Remote starter where you use your stock remote. I dont know how much they charge for the kit. But something I want to do.

Haha, thanks. I am pretty set on this idea, and my concepts are growing and growing from here.

Thinking of having two options, 1 - normal FOB start, option 2, cell phone start. There is no new technology, just application of exisiting technology.

I can expand my ideas here if anyone wants to hear, still looking for some solid advice/input here.

Thanks for the comments!

Well, I am an automotive engineer, so I get 2 weeks off around christmas. I am not going to know what to do with myself! Now I have a mission! I plan to have this project finished by first week in Jan.

So, watch this topic, and if anyone wants to see this done, any information sharing would be valuable!

Thanks,
-Steve

im sure you prolly know this already, but DIE ( i forget what it means.. lol) makes a engine imobilizer bypass just to let the car to remote start. however i still have my immobilizer active so that the car wont go anywhere without the key, even if started. im sure you will need one of these for the project.

interesting, called them. seem like good people.

Looks like they are working with a fellow named Daren (Spelling?) here on SL, trying to work on getting a test car to start this project.

I think i can beat them to the punch maybe ;)

I'm very interested in the LuxLink...if you accidentally start it by pressing lock too many times, will pressing unlock three times turn the car off? This would be an excellent feature.

i assume it would attempt to start the car again, but if they have a starter disable feature, it will not grind out your starter and make that nasty noise.

(come on, we have all done it)

Might be pricey, but I think it's cool. I wouldn't mind having this:

^ that would be cool... a bit over the top.. but damn it will be cool. ahha.

oh, my bad i knew it was DIE or DEI something like that. lol.

when i press my remote start again after it has already started, it kills my car. what kinda sucks though, if my lights are on, they wont turn off if my car is remotely killed. the only way to turn off my lights is by opening and closing the door again. lol

Hmm, it seems that when the key is in the ignition (what an immobilizer simulates) the fob does not work.

So, when a tC is remote started, my stock fob will not work, so i cannot unlock my doors (except for using the actual key). any experience in this?

Also, how does it "know" the key is in the ignition. Is it simply a contact switch? or the RF field?

Anyone know? Thanks!
