Default for those with an ipod and subs....

what eq setting do you use on your ipod?

i can't find one that sounds good at all in my car. i've got my stock front door speakers on an amp, and 2 jl 12s in a sealed box. the radio and mp3 cds sound great! the ipod, not so much. the mp3s on the ipod are good quality mp3s with high bitrates (taken from cds i own.... ^_^ ) but it sounds like crap - playback quality is kinda like a cassette player. i've got the ssp set to "feel" and the radio is set for the tc tune. treble is on 4, bass on 2, and subs at -2 and reverse phase. oh, and it's also the upgraded pioneer t1809 stock headunit.

i'm just about ready to create some mp3 cds of my favorite music..... and keep the ipod for stuff my wife likes - since the bass gets turned way down when she's in the car anyway....

thanks!

I don't have the EQ on for my iPod at all. I just use the stereo and adjust everything that way.

If i'm not mistaken, I think when you transfer songs through iTunes and/or to your iPod, the music files get decompressed to 128kbps.

On my iPod, I leave the eq setting on neutral and adjust via the headunit. If the stock headunit isn't doing it for you, i'd look into getting an aftermarket one. Trust me, it will make a world of difference.

Just get a larger iPod and transfer everything as lossless.

I have a 60gb one that is 2gb away from being full and I am looking at getting a 160gb classic so I can transfer the rest of my music to it in lossless. It is nearly impossible to tell the difference between lossless and the original CD. I had one album that I had ripped as lossless and one track, that I forgot was on my iPod from the same album as an MP3 and I originally could tell the mp3.

not trying to bash or anything but the reason could be because of the ipod. ipods don't have good sound quality.

I tend to agree, based only on my own experience. Even when using bad 128k mp3s, they seem to sound a lot better playing from a CD than from my 4GB ipod mini. Not sure why, but there's definitely an easily noticeable difference.

figured i'd give an update....

i have one of the last gen 8g ipod nano's. the eq on the ipod is set for jazz, volume on the ipod is at about 80%.

headunit is the premium stock t1809, bass set to -2, treble to +4, ssp set to feel, asl set to low, and subs set to -2 normal phase.

dayum...... i like it a ton better now! the door speakers are stock, but the fronts are on an xtant 121 amp, and have two jl's in a sealed box getting pushed by an old school fosgate 360a2.

now i can crank it to ~40 when i'm really feelin the music - or just want a back rub. ^_^

happy thumping!
