Default Aftermarket Nav systems

Hey everyone, I just got a TC (07) and have been lurking around the TC forums for a while before I actually bought the car. I'm looking to install a nav system but had no intention of spending $2000 on the SNS.

I've been searching the forums for recommendations/suggestions for aftermarket nav's but most of the conversations are a couple of years old. Basically I'm curious what the consensus is on nav's, new, old, as long as they are available. I'd like it to have ipod hookups, (or a basic aux input) but beyond that as long as it sounds good.

I've seen all the discussion on bypassing the speed sensor, I'm also curious as to what gps antenna they need. I've seen the kenwood's talk about the "kenwood gps antenna" but some of the photos looks like a basic usb antenna.

Any help is appreciated. I'm planning on slowly working new toys into my TC, so I'll be here a lot, i'm sure. Thanks.

Yeah, I just got my D3 but haven't been able to install it yet. From what I have heard they are great navigation systems.

I had a D3. loved it. Now i just upgraded to the avic-F90BT. It has dvd, nav, hd radio, satellite radio, ipod,cd, am/fm, aux input, sd card slot, and a built in amp(i think). This thing is so sexy, and it has a hard drive so no messing with the map disks. Avic-F90 FTW

Was the hard drive just for the maps or could you also store music to it? If so, how big was the hard drive and how is music ripped to it (real time or faster)?

I dont know if I can rip music to it, I just always have my ipod in. But the hard drive does copy all your contacts from your cell phone, and i forgot to mention you can watch videos off your ipod too.

get the kenwood dnx8120

I have it and its no joke

the price is a little high but man its worth it.

If you want great SQ and almost limitless sound tuning options this is for you.

I tried the Pioneers, Eclipses,JVC and Kenwood was the only one who got it right

The pioneer just takes to long to load and the screen is to small for me. The built in bluetooth is ok and the voice ipod thing was kinda lame, never used it

The Eclipse is just boring. It has a 7 band eq but thats it. The nav looks lame.

The JVC was pretty much the same as the Eclipse

The kenwood has a 13 band eq for the front speakers and another 13 band eq for the rear. 6/12/18/24db crossovers, time alignment, dual zone, bluetooth works EXCELLENT, everyone can hear me fine they cant tell im not on the phone.
The nav is great and very accurate. The dual USB input is sweet.

any more questions ,just ask

My boy has the kenwood. Only thing that really sold me on the pioneer over the kenwood tho was the actual ipod interface, and the screen quality. Yeah kenwoord does have a bigger screen. (7 i think) but i think my resolution looks better. but if you dont care about price the Kenwood is a sick unit.

I had a D3 as well and moved to the F90BT i like the F90BT but it has a long start up time which is annoying :/ also you cannot store music onto it and load off of it, but USB drives, Ipod, SD, CD, DVD so you have options and it has a nice navi

Thanks for the input. I assume since your mostly talking about units you have that they installed without too much trouble. Do the steering wheel controls still work (i know you sometimes have to buy an extra kit). Also, what add-ons did you need? I see some of these need additional parts for the Ipod, GPS and Bluetooth. What kind of prices did you pay when you got your systems?

Thanks for all the input.

i was wondering the same thing, so if you install any aftermarket nav system the steering wheel controls will not work?
