Default Tinting main gauge cluster!

I know there are aftermarket gauges like this, but has anyone tinted the plastic covering of the factory gauge cluster so that the gauges are only visible when the back light is turned on? I want to try it, but I'm just not sure if it will bright enough so see through the tint. I was thinking about going with 40% tint. What do you guys think?

thats a unique idea, I think it would work best after an LED swap. Id say try it, if it doesnt work, take it off.

Sorry guys, I only did the main cluster and turned the lights off... and went ugh... Was not near bright enough. Mabey if I could find a really light tint with a heavy mirror coat to it, may work better,.
