Tricks to burning MP3 CDs for the tC G2 HU?
Are there any guidelines to burning MP3 CDs for the TC G2 stock head unit? I tried burning one with 31 files, and it only played about 17 of them (all 10 in a subfolder were recognized, but about 7 of them in the root folder were skipped right over). All of the files are 256 kbps CBR, 44.1KHz joint stereo.
I might try burning another CD with all of the files in subfolders to see if that makes it able to recognize more. These are about 400 MB of trance tracks, which would run 4 hours, 9 minutes, so if I could have all of these accessible on one disc instead of having them on CD-DA among 5 CDs, that'd be nice.

Well, I changed the file hierarchy (from "21 files in the root folder and 10 in one subfolder" to "8, 9, 4, and 10 files in four subfolders, and nothing in the root folder") and went out for a quick drive, and it seems to play them all fine. In the original setup, there were files that weren't even being indexed by the player.
The manual to the head unit has an "About folders and MP3/WMA files" section showing an example of a folder hierarchy being indexed, and the tree shows music files (all WMA files and no MP3 files; interesting). Perhaps the file indexer isn't optimized for handling files in the root folder. Oh well, another backup CD I guess. :-)

did you burn it as a data disc? or an mp3 disc?
All of mine recognize track title, and artist and file name. I think mine is set up differently cuz a friend of mine uses itunes and his doesnt display that in his tc. But I will try to figure out what I did and post it up. Data discs work just fine too. I did those when I redid my computer and didnt I tunes installed at the time.

Never had a problem. must've had 60 songs in the root.. I have chosen "data disc" instead of "mp3 disc" i've seen that if i used the mp3 disc feature it doesn't burn correctly. As a Data disc it works fine..

i'm glad you've gotten it to at least work for you.. but i've burned with both ways, nothing but the root, and 60 in the root, and subfolders as well.. never had a problem.. i'm using nero to burn these discs..

arbnpx...
When you burn a CD, you need to make sure that the CD is closed. Leaving the disk open (also know as "Multi-Session") will let you add files later but confuse the crap out of the HU. There should be a check box in you software to create single or multi-session disks.

I'm able to use Nero to burn a data CD, and I'll organize into folders.
I'm forced to add the track number to the file name b/c apparently the HU doesn't read tag info to see the track number?? Also, it doesn't seem to read any of my ID3 tags or anything, just shows, e.g., 1-1 for folder one track one... I'm not sure why, all my MP3's are named correctly and fully ID3 tagged.
I'm new to the car, so is there a button I need to press to force it to read the tags?
Oh and I think if you're going to use folders, you may have to use all folders. Try that and let us know what happens... good luck

2. to name the track is common, since it uses the Numeric-Alpha system.. arranges mp3's by number first.. I usually have to put a 1, 2, 3, in front of file names to arrange it the way i like..
3. the text button will scroll through the id3 tags..
