Default upgrading speakers, need input on what to get

as the subject says, I am finally upgrading the stock tc speakers. I want incredibly clear speakers, preferably with woofers that really kick. I am willing to spend up to $500 on the speakers alone. I chose a couple speakers, which I think are good, but I have no clue what I am looking for. I really want Focal Car Audio speakers, but crutchfield said they won't fit without modification.

1. Do I need an amp for them?
2. What size speakers fit the front? Crutchfield says 6.5 but gives me 5.25" for my search results...
3. Any other brands out there that compete with the speakers up top?

I've heard of brands such as Hertz mille, Diamond Audio, but I honestly have no idea what is good and what isn't. What I am looking for are speakers that allow me to hear every instrument, including bass guitars, and drums. I listen to a lot of rap, rock, metal, hip hop, and alternative. Give me suggestions! I want to buy speakers today preferably

Some other speakers I am considering:

1. Pioneer Premier TS-C520prs / TS-C720prs
2. JL audio C5-525

I would def go with the JL Audio ZR650-CSi and a JL HD600/4 amp to push them, the amp is a little pricey but they sound badass pushed with this amp. Super clean and clear with some good bass for 6.5's

I decided to go with Alpine's SPX-17Pro Type x pro series speakers, powered by hifonics txi 4008 amp. Those alpines won awards and get 5/5 on all reviews I have read. I'm quite excited to get them. All for 440 shipped from sonic electronix

Kappas suck, stay away, JL ZR's all the way, you'll want to be in your car more and more as you listen to them

Its so hard to choose speakers to buy when you can't hear them. I'm just going from reviews and what crutchfield had to say, and hopefully they will sound just as good, if not better than I am hoping.

Sound is subjective.
You should really try to hear what you are interested in before buying.

x2. We all hear differently. What may sound good to me may sound like crap to you. That's why it's
a good idea to take a listen to some brands. GL

CDT, image dynamics are also good brands to look into.

Dont go with JL, there are better speakers you can get with that kind of money, aka CDT image dynamics

You should look into MB Quart. I have had a reference set for 6 years and they are going strong. Whatever you choose, make sure you put atleast 100watts per channel from a real amp like JL Slash series or ebay and old school Rockford Punch DSM amp. Good luck

MB Quart is garbage now that they've been taken over by maxxsonics. If you are going to run them passive, go with the Pioneer C720's. Or even Phoenix Gold RSD65CS, they are cheap to buy and they sound amazing for what they are.... if you really want to research check out DIYmobileaudio.com

I have heard one model of Focal and they sounded amazing and they were in a big room. I could only imagine what they would sound like in a car.

I believe it was these http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...al+165+KF.html
