Default US Amps?

The guy at my local audio shop offer the 1000W US Amps amp for 275. It sounds like a good price but I just never heard of them, anybody know anything about these amps?

US Amps used to be really big back in the day in the bass off world. Their stuff is pretty good. Rated alot lower than what it actually does.

USAmps has been around for a LONG time, and have a cult-like following. They've always been regarded among car audio competitors as excellent sound quality amplifiers, and the SPL crowd LOVES them.

A few years ago, the company had been sold (typical), and now they're "just another amplifier company". Nothing too special, but nothing to complain about either. The models that made USAmps is now the "MD" series. If the local dealer is going to support you and the product, I say go for it!

Great product, used to compete with it back in 1998-2000. The old stuff is worth every penny, the new stuff with the new owners seems to be decent.

Didn't know that, but had wondered. That's happened to so many of the great old brands, seems a shame, but I guess it's tough to fight economics.

One thing to note...the XT series is not up to par at all. There was an interview posted online a few months back with one of the main guys at US. IIRC, Flakko did the interview (those who are familiar with US and their relations on forums are probably familiar with Flakko)....the US guy basically said the XT line was a piece of junk that doesn't do anywhere near rated power. It's a line that takes advantage of the US Amps name to sell products which in turn drive capital for the rest of the product lines. The video was taken down a day or two later when US found out about it, but the damage was done and the truth about the XT line is now out. So moral of the story is....don't buy the XT line....the Merlin and AX lines are fine, but the XT line is Chinese-made junk.

I wouldn't be surprised if this so-called 1000w amp that the store is selling you for 275 is an XT amp. Make sure to check what model you're getting before you purchase, and that it's not an XT (XTerminator).
