What is the best navigation/dvd system?
I want to get a navi/dvd system for my tc, but I dont know what to get the new avic-z1 looks pretty good because of the features and all but people say you cant change the navigation options like POI while driving, eclipse makes nice systems as well but what system do you guys recommend that will allow me to watch dvd while driving, connect ipod, and change POI or diming the screen while driving?
There are a few good choices and they all have their pro and cons but neither the Avic nor the ecplise will do it all. I have the Eclipse AVN5495 (with hard drive). If you want NAV and DVD at the same time you'll need to get either a dual DVD system or a HDD system.
I have a Avic-D1 and I love it, although I would've taken the Avic-Z1 (OBVIOUSLY!) if it was out when I bought the D1, but with the bypass, the D1 is able to have all of the features enabled while driving, like POI and my PS2 that is hooked up. The shop I had it done at even gave me a switch underneath my e-brake to turn on or off my bypass whenever I want. That way if a cop pulls me over for like watching a movie then I simply flip the switch to disable the bypass, and show him that when the car is moving the system wont let a movie play! HAHA very nice! :D
i have the eclipse AVN5435 and it works with the sterring wheel controls. in order to use the navigation controls while driving, you have to disconnect the parking brake while and re-ground it somewhere else. really easy to do.
i think right now the eclipse is the only brand that works w/ the steering wheel controls.. i could be wrong

People are going to swear by what they have. Personally, I like my Eclipse AVN-5435, BUT I wish it had NavTraffic like the Pioneers have (using XM anyways). That to me is invaluable since I now drive on the freeways for an hour and a half every day.
The Eclipse AVN-5435 sucks when it comes to MP3 playing. (My deck when playing an MP3 CD with 128K encoded songs, burned with Nero 7, it takes 10seconds+ to navigate folders most of the time. And it also hangs a bit when just skipping forward a song.
The stock Pioneer did a better job at playing them (I use the same disc I used with the Pioneer stock HU and in the Eclipse, and the 5435 still has the issue)

I've got the AVIC-Z1. With the PAC device (forget the name) you can hook up the steering wheel controls to Vol Up/Down, Track Up/Down, Change Modes and turn the system on/off. It took me about 2 hours to get the Z1 and the PAC installed. This was taking my time.
I also did the bypass at www.avic411.com Very easy to do and I can use all the functions while driving.
