That isn't needed to fix the problem, and the cap didn't cause it either.

OP - There should be a fuse or circuit breaker close to the battery, on the power wire going to your amp. Any good shop will always install one within 18 inches of the battery, and if yours doesn't have one, it may have shorted out somewhere between the battery and amp. If the fuse in the amp looked good like you said, then use another power wire to perform a test so you can see if the amp is blown.

The cap isn't causing you any problem and it won't hurt anything, it might even help at certain times, so I think you should leave it alone. Not wanting to discuss it with anyone, just providing a counter-opinion to those that say get rid of it. I've used a cap in all my systems since 1992 and never had an issue with any of them.

nope

fuses on the amp are for the amp

the fuse inline with the wire is for the wire

what size is the wire?

8ga = no more than 60amps
4 ga = 125
0 ga = 300ish

those are just a few threads from reputable members saying to steer clear of caps.

please read thru the info and ditch the crap....oops i mean cap
I took the time to check those links, and read every post on the specific pages (not the entire threads, since surely you linked to the most important parts to support your perspective) your URLs brought up. Here's what I found;

The first page doesn't present any technical reasons not to use a cap, just some people saying "you don't need one".

The second page is much the same, except one person related their experience and indicated it was positive, that his bass improved with a cap.

The third one didn't have anyone saying anything bad, with one mod indicating he was against them, yet stating "...but many people swear by them. To each his own".

As stated in several posts here, I've used a cap in all my installs since '92 and never had an issue with the electrical system on any of the cars. Just stating my personal experience, not wanting to argue about it, but hoping people will be open-minded instead of buying into either side's hype.
