Default WHATS WITH ALL THE CRAPPY SUBS!?!?!?!

Everywhere I look on these forums I see AMAZING boxes and setups, only to be disapointed to see whats in them! Audiobahns, Sonys, MTX, Power Acoustic, Obriens.....I mean c'mon people if your putting that much money into the box itself spend an extra hundred dollars and get a sub would pounding. I do realize money is an issue. My first sub setup was with Alpine Type E's, and even though they are the lowest level Alpines, they sounded pretty damn good. Right now I'm in the process of selling my JL W7 setup and moving onto Boston Acoustics G5 with GTR. The W7 was amazing, just wanna try some new stuff out. Anyway I got off track, WHY THE CRAPPY SUBS???

Speaker setups are 90% install. If the install is great, then even the worst speakers can sound good.

That said, from your list, it really depends on the series of speaker, all those companies make a sub that's decent.

Also, not everyone has the kind of money to spend on speakers to get a W7 or the Boston Acoustics. Buy what you have the money for, but no reason to make a post blasting the choices of many members here.

well I didnt have a huge budget to put into my setup, but for what I paid, i'm happy with it. Its all JBL stuff, and I built the fiberglass/fur box.

yea no reason to come on here and say crap. its all with install bud. i hate to tell ya. ive heard W7s that sound like absolute CRAP because theyre in the wrong box and set up wrong. if you're willing to put your subs up against mine *not you mandos i know what you have * against my Duals, go for it. i bet you i will hit harder

ill put money on it.

and if you want to talk crap about names, lets talk Audiobahn Immortal or MTX Sledgehammer, or better yet, Jackhammer.

sorry man but you need to read a little more on here before you openly slam people like that. i will put money up with my subs vs. yours.

Hey, I agree with Tampa-TC. I mean, why spend all the money just for a look? At least take your total amount of money you plan to spend, and purhcase everything in relativly close amounts of $. I mean, dont spend $2,000 for some rad custom work only to crap-out the total package with junk subs. If you can't do a good all around package, dont go overboard on making it look cool and not be able to back it with some good sound. I mean, its common sense. You wouldn't buy a Lamborghini Diablo kit car, put $2,000 wheels on it, a $5,000 exhaust and a worn out 1996 4 cyl. engine! Same concept.

My boyfriend owns a car audio store that i work at, and i have seen him do some amazing things with "shi!!y speakers".
Instead of complaining about people buying cheap woofers, how bout you complain about people that have 10 10" subs. Now thats rediculous!
I have 1 12" Power Bass Pro Refrence Series, that could blow alot of systems outta the water.
SO instead of doggin on brands, how bout you dog about people that would rather have Quantity instead of Quality...

Just a thought

Kinda, but not quite.

A 4 cyl. engine is a finite limitation. People can do amazing things with bottom of the line speakers. I remember someone placing like 2nd or 3rd in SQ world finals with radio shack speakers. If that isn't impressive, I don't know what is

Also, "junk subs" is a highly subjective term. Lots of people like lower end subs and they're great for them. If it makes them happy, then it's good for them.

Edit for the quantity thing ;)

If you do quantity right, it's VERY nice. Less movement of each speaker=less distortion at normal listening levels=much cleaner sound

Randode, any better pics of that install?

Let's try to keep this from becoming like the rice discussions or it'll be closed

i dont think that looks and quality go together very much. mandos probably knows better than I, but look at any top audio vehicle that competes in dB competitions. how many are fiberglassed?? none i see. theyre for sound. people who do it for looks usually want some good bass, but they sacrifice sound quality in design usually by fiberglassing or making it fit the area, and not what cubic ft of air would be best. its hard to balance the two, so looks prevail. my set up looks decent, but its not fiberglassed and stuff. its a MDF box with carpet. nothing more. if you're spending 2000 for a custom enclosure, you already have the money to do it right, but by having something that looks cool, you're inherently going to lose sound quality because obviously that wont be your aim.

so i still go back to, its all in the enclosure. i dont care what subs you have, you dont have an enclosure to put it in, you dont have anything. ill personally let people sit in my car and slam on Dual brand subwoofers. go for it infact. i wont hear a damn bit of it because the music will be so loud i wont hear you in the seat next to me. all because of a correctly made box for the subs and vehicle.

now if youre talkin longeivity and fit and finish, you will have a point in Dual vs. JL. Sound quality though. Through your brand names out the window.

Dual subs can take an impressive beating. Made bass gravy on one w/ an 1800 watt amp...didn't die until we threw another amp through it

yea theyre a cheap sub, you can do fun stuff with them. it looks like it was hitting pretty good there for a bit. and i guess i fall under the quantity over quality too though.

im running 6 12s in a box made for SPL. not some custom fiberglassed thing for looks, but something that will rattle the rear view mirror...... on the car next to me

whatever though i guess. chris, i cant wait to see you at the next car show i cant wait to see what the tC does i guess hes the only one here that will be able to see my junk subs and my stupid quantity.

also for those that are doubting me or Chris (Mandos), why dont you look in his profile and just see what he does for living. i dont think he got that position by being uneducated about car audio....

You guys are still ludicrous. at least I see one person that agrees with me, why spend all that money and put a best buy brand sub in it? its stupid. also you talk about the looks, you open up that hatch and someone sees that, they laugh, whether they do it out loud or inside their head they're laughing at you. And whoever has the 6 Dual 12's, one JL w7 13 would blow your system into pieces. Its cheesy guys, no class whatsoever.

you're calling the head of elemental design subwoofers sales that hes "ludicrous" im sure you're an expert man . really. i think you know a lot about subs....

no people dont laugh at my setup. they go

not very often do you see 6 12s in an xB.

and to point out your hipocracy, i like your alpines... from best buy.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1099388651574

and dont even say its the Brand of best buy. best buy and Dual are not owned by the same company.

each of my duals *almost* has the same specs as your type Es. thats bad?

as for 13W7, im not arguing theyre bad for tight bass, but theyre not boomy at all. theyre good for rock and pop, but for deep and really loud bass, call me crazy, ill take my 6 12s.

talk all your crap. ive got the failed hearing tests to prove how loud of a system that i can build....

enjoy your new setup, all 130 dB of it

How's this ..

I'm currantly doing an install for a very high profile showcar. The install alone has gone over the $50k mark. All for a sponsorship by Lanzar. Not even using the better stuff. And Pyle for video. (lanzar, pyle, pyramid, legacy,etc..all same company)

The price of the install('s) makes the equipment a small fraction of the overall cost. These people can afford any of the high-end products I sell but are using this stuff because they were able to get a 'Sponsorship'.

In the end, it will be an awesume car with crappy audio/video equipment.

Maybe some already had the sub and used them. Come on man... for someone so "knowledgeable" you say the box is expensive???? I build all my own when I do them.. so they arent that expensive at all. So, maybe they either spent big money to have someone else design and build the box.. so they had little left for the sub, or they built their own box and used a cheaper sub... if they are happy with it who cares??? other than nosey-a$$es who have nothing better to do than trash talk others equipment. You know... some would say "Why waste your money on a "cheap" scion?" But, you know it all with your "prime A #1 quality Alpines" right??? yeeeah

What purpose did one word of your post serve other than sheer rudeness?

You are being a total @$$, and showing little knowledge to back it up on top of that.

I think the only thing "ludacrous" here is the kiddies with nothing better to do than to start a thread for no purpose other than to talk trash. Thanks for making a good, easy target of yourself though.

And you speak of class... which you have demonstrated a complete lack of by even posting this drivel. Plus, you seem more worried about people laughing at your setup than what you like... so a lack of spine as well..... at least the guys running "crappy" subs that you speak arent being total jack-offs to everyone and are enjoying the system they have.

And guess what??? I havent even touched the system in this car yet... I just cant stand little a-holes pretending to talk down to those who have done nothing to deserve it.

Someone failed to read the original post becuase I havent had my Type E's in quite some time. AS for going with the cheap level Scion whoever said that you are absolutely correct. Im a senior in high school that works exclusivley on European Import cars, I have two Porsches a 1995 and a 2005 sitting in the garage, a 2002 Mercedes ML430, a 2004 Acura TSX, I bought the Scion for the same reason some others did - to have some fun decking it out, and the original point is that you do not do that with crappy audio equipment. Yeah it can sound jus as "loud" as some of the others, but never as clean or nice. Sorry. HAve fun with that guys.
