looks good. phoenixtc how much did it cost you? i got quoted around 100 bucks to have the "waterfall thing" and gauge cover painted Flint Mica. is that close to what you paid?

 

That is a pretty good deal. Cost me around $80. I had one of the guys in our group do it. He paints on the side.

wow, that blue is hot phoenixtc. i got tasked by someone to paint their interior and i am doing the black in the middle and a darker blue on the sides. like the blue that was on the Cavi. i will post pics of his when it is done. good luck to everyone with their projects and great job to thoes who are finished.

 

i just stopped by the shop to find a time to drop of my peices. im gonna have the outsides and gauge cover done in flint mica, and the middle part of the consol in black sand pearl. :D i cant wait

interior painting is easy, if done properly. and with proper sanding, and enough coats of paint, in the correct temperature, etc... i think my skills would meet up to anyones standards (not trying to sound cocky). dont just sand, paint, sand, paint, clear coat, either. its more or less as follows.

1. remove from interior (seems obvious, but i've had to fix peoples jobs when they taped it off... ugh)
2. sand thoroughly paaying extra attention to the grooves.
3. clean throughly (again, paying attention to the grooves. usually a q-tip works great for this). do not paint unless you are positive its CLEAN
4. I use primer. some people do, some dont. but for me, i cant paint something unless i primer it. this too will give the paint something to adhere to.
5. sand again with a smoother sand paper
6. clean again
7. paint.
8. lightly sand
9. clean
10. paint again
11. lightly sand
12. clean once more

once you are satisfied, then apply as many clear coats as your little heart desires.
the more coats of clear coat, the "wetter" it will look.

im sure someone out there will correct me, but i have been doing this for about 3 years and any advice is welcome, but i have never encountered any problems. one vehicle i just saw about a month ago that i did 2 years ago, and it looks good as new still. here are some pics from a project i completely about 8 months ago.

Only the black has really got me impressed in a Scion Interior... there's just too much black and grey to add another color, unless you just go crazy and add it all over the place...

Definately not feeling the pic above ^ It's got to match and be clean to really get me going.

 

gunmetal paint on the outside of the center console and black on the inside.. along with the shifter square thingy..

 

in my own personal defense, i painted this color because thats what the guy wanted... he wanted ALOT of it and i did it. i was merely posting the pic to show what another color would look like in a (similar colored dash) and to show the outcome of a project with the steps i took. the car looks better in person then in those pictures, but pictures never really DO do justice, huh?

i like all i have seen so far and i am having a hard time deciding on my car. i think i want to do something black and white. boring probably, but different, clearly (to a fellow scion lover) and not only that, but a fun project to do that will catch some mild attention in Ames in May. (plus, i am going for the white/ black look... something a little more different and definately CLEAN butt install.

what do you guys think? i may be starting this weekend. might do the BSP type paint (to add texture to the flat black) and simply white with no pearl in it. cant seem to decide.

 

I like the pearled setups, but it's sometimes tough on plastic..... Something classic like B&W might work... you'd just have to gloss the white up pretty well, as flat white isn't too apealing.

wow that came out really good. that color makes the interior look more classy, kinda like wood grain does.

 

awesome...I think i'm gonna do that in HOC: Cobalt Blue for my IIP tC.

 

I think I might end up wrapping the painted pieces in fabric. Just gotta make a trip to the fabric store to see what kind they have thats appealing.

 

Wow eujin. I really like the look of that. I have been debating about painting the interior to match the Absolutely Red exterior. That color looks pretty close to it. Great job on the painting.
